I really dont think it matters much Chris as the stock focus coils on the other tubes are lower than 50 at about 35, but on the Barkenstien its closer to 50, i think 47. Not sure.

plus i am only looking at it on the tube face through the lens. I dont have enough room for putting up a screen id need another two feet. I want to find a swivel plate like form a Lazy susan so i can swivel the PJ to face another wall for image testing and then back to how I have it now for scoping and easy access to the Power supplies as I have a few ideas for the LVPS in conjunction with some MP ideas we have been throwing around Wink

Great Nashou, But try to get something a little bit larger in diameter 12" isn't much considering what you intend to swivel. It's like 1/3 of the length and 1/2 the width. So go for the 17" one for a couple of bucks more to be safer.

Too late i already bought it, only 8 bucks. It will go towards the front of the PJ anyhow where all the weight is, it should be fine.

Got home and my 16 gauge wire is here along with 4 Enermax Enlobal Bearing fans for my LVPS's. Looks like i'll be busy.

Very Happy

Ok, I tried the 16 gauge wire on the focus coils Scott gave me a couple years ago that did not have a dynamic winding, So it had the 25mh static and the newly rewound 32 turn, 16 turns per layer, 16 gauge wire. I have to say its a bitch using thicker wire. Also it does not fit through the holes on the PCB board and its is not easy to fit through the slots in the magnet either.

Well I can not say its any better than my Barco wound coil, probably due to the static needed more inductance. I'll rewind that another day. I also found the resistance should be very low but it was not right, i need to double check my batteries in my meter but it rad almost 2 ohms and it should be .06 from the calculator i used. But i did get fairly nice focus.

I think I'll order some 18 gauge wire too, it will be 1.5 layers but still the entire bobbin will be covered at least once.

But i think it could get better if i had the right deflection yoke shape for the thomas tube, Does any one know if an 8 inch and 9 inch tubes deflection yokes are the same size?

I think thats what I'll need for using the thomas tube, the 8 inch yoke leaves about a 1/2 gap, i know it should be closer.

The simplest thing to do would be to contact Thomas Electronics and ask them for information on deflection yokes that are suitable for that type of tube. They'll have the information you need to pursue this without many false starts.

Its not the problem, I just thinkt he 8 inch yoke is different shaped ferrite shell than the 9 inch model and i don't feel like taking the yokes off my 9500LC just for testing.

Nash I got some 9" sweep yokes from Curt awhile back because I'm also using 8" yokes on my 8500->9500 (Thomas tubes). I can try to dig them out today and take some pics, not sure if I have more 8" yokes floating around to take comparison pics of, I probably do though.

That be cool, Mike P is looking for some too, and is sending me a barco 909 coil to add to our data base of values.
Since Chris is back into this I'll make an updated list of the current values we have so he can post it on the first page for easy reference.

I'd like Scott to maybe give info here on what values the deflection yokes need to be for the Marquee's HDM to work with.
I might try different deflection yokes from other manufactures on the Thomas tubes as well, Then I might be able to optimize them. A paper 9kids posted earlier in this thread has interesting details on how the deflection yoke also comes into play with focus.

I don't remember there being any visible difference between the deflection yokes used in 9500s and the ones used iin 8500s, not even
when compared side by side. I've checked because I once had a whole box of them from various sources and when I went to reassemble
a 9500 after retubing it, I sorted through all the yokes to ensure I got a matched set. The only difference I observed was "old style"
and "new style" , with the old style yokes being known to be from a machine that was so old it had the non-hinged rear heatsink.

There is a difference. they even have different part numbers.

Below is the Deflection and Convergence yokes from both Barco 909 and Marquee 8500LC.

One of my next projects is getting a set of Barco 909 Deflection and Convergence yokes installed on my test Marquee.

The convergence coil is separate on the Marquee set, but integrated on the 909 set. The 909 deflection section has 4 wires, while the 8500 has 6. The Deflection coils DC resistance is the same, but the Barco Horizontal coils are in Parallel. Whie the 8500 deflection coils are separate going to the HDM.

If you look at the connector shot, I'll need to separate the two horizontal coils and put separate connectors for them.

My next snowed in project:

Thanks Mike, have a pic of the difference between a 9 inch Marquee and 8 inch marquee Coil?

Ok here is a pic nathan At VDC sent me, he said they can be interchanged just that the Q value might be different. But he's not 100% sure if the shape is exactly the same as they do have different part numbers like Mike P mentioned. form the pic he sent its hard to tell as they do look Identical.

8 inch Yoke on Left.

A funny thing happened today....

About three or four years ago I had a box of Marquee deflection and convergence yokes kicking around that were all just extras to me, really not of any use at all.

I gave them away...but don't remember who I gave them to. I may have just taken them to the local electronic surplus shop and left them on the dock.

Today, I visited the local electronic recycler on a parts hunt. They have a box for deflection yokes and other items that are made of
ferrite and magnet wire. I look in it just to see what's in there. Hey, those yokes look familiar! They look like Marquee yokes!

So I pick up a few by the cables, and look at them....and man, that red silicone RTV over the pins of a couple of them sure looks familiar!
On further examination I note that some of the connectors have R, G, and B written on them with a Sharpie...and it's in MY handwriting!

I ended up getting back my same "junk" yokes some four years after I got rid of them. Where were they for the last four years?
And, what are the odds?

Now I don't have to go searching for yokes for the test projector that I'll be using soon to build and test the Advanced FrankenYokes.

I also dragged out my LVPS test box, which I think I'll finish up once I determine the required load resistor values to hook up between
each voltage circuit's hot and return legs. I never finished that in the past. It's intended to be used to test the LVPS after repairs
and check the P14 voltage after installing a variable resistor for adjusting the P14 voltage. It could also find uses as a way to test
mods intended to reduce the electrical noise on the voltage outputs.

It'll be a while before I really do anything with that test box.

Athan, you mentioned that your new coils didn't read right on DC resistance.

You might want to check your meter. A lot of meters are not accurate at all below a few ohms. It wouldn't hurt to order a few 1 percent low ohm value resistors from Digikey to use as standards. You may find that your meter just isn't very accurate below, say, 2 or 3 ohms.

Hi guys

Sorry to interrupt this thread, but I bought a set of Frankenyokes Mk. 2 and I'm preparing to mount them.

Unfortunately all the pictures on the original post are gone. Do any of you have a link to a tread that is still intact with all the pictures?

It is the first time I have to do adjustments on the tube itself. I know this article http://www.etechvideo.com/techtip9.htm but are there any other help to find somewhere?
My plan is to do everything on a table pointing to the wall before hanging the projector on the ceiling.

Kind regards, Claus
