Joust,

That is the first time I've seen the same sony cable color pattern as my own. Could you tell me what colors you matched up with what colors on the Marquee? I can't tell from your pic. I can't even tell where you spliced things at. Laughing

Wait, nevermind... I see now that you didn't do any splicing. You just pinned the sony cables directly into the marquee connectors. Nice job indeed!
Okay, I figured out the colors now. Mine are all exactly as you have yours. Smile

Barry, the connector on the KF22-11 looks like a reasonably standard 4-pin molex connector, probably like the Astig plug in your picture. Do you happen to know if it's a weird shape or anything that would make it hard to find one? Do I have to find an old 8110 and steal the plug from it? That's what Dragan thought but I figured I could find them somewhere...

yeah, they are standard Molex 0.156" housings.
astig is 4pin and the Static/Dynamic is 6 pin although 2 on the end are used for the thermistor that we are not using in this design so you could get away with a 4 piner there too.
unless you have the proper crimper to put the pins on with, you might be better off finding one to steal.
i happen to have all that stuff though. I could make you cables if you like.

OK, please forgive the endless list of idiot questions, but...

This 22-11 has only one socket on it, the 4-pin molex job. The 22-11 doesn't have astig windings (right?) so there is no astig socket. Apparently the Sony / 22-22 / (?) coils use a 6-pin connector? But 2 of those are for a thermistor, so no worries. I haven't torn my 8500 apart recently, but if I remember right there is a 4-wire line (blue purple white gray? or is that astig?) that goes to the focus coil. So I just need to get a molex connector that fits the 22-11 and splice it into the 4-wire line. Or create an "extension" that goes from the 22-11 connector to whatever plugs into the current 8500 coil. But you're saying those molex connectors need special crimpers so maybe I should just find one with wires that I could steal. Hmm.

I wouldn't have to ask quite so many dumb questions if CJ's pix were still up, sorry 'bout that...

well I have never seen the connector on a so called 2211. the connector on the sony 1-452-811-11 (formerly called 22-22) has a 9 pin connector. this connector is NOT molex AFAIK.
the Molex connector i was referring to is the ones that mate with he Marquee boards. All the pictures CJ put up had the connector removed and he soldered wires directly into the board.

ok so to wire your 2211 to a 8000 you need a 6 pin molex to mate to the marquee and whatever that Japanese connector is. if we cannot get that connector, do like CJ did and solder the wore in directly. or put a different type of header in the yoke board.

The KD mag connector....

Digi-key has them. You can solder the wires to the pins if you are careful.

I have some of those. 4 pin and 7 pin ones. is it a 4 pin on the 2211?

BTW, where is that 2211 yoke from? what projector? I'd like to find some for experimentation.

I may have an unrelated problem that quietly surfaced during one of my "marquee maintenence" threads. I just haven't had time to chase it down, due to a busy work/personal schedule lately.

Finally got the rest of the big things off my plate today and settled in to work on the 'quee for a few minutes before I go out for dinner later.

I'd assumed my gremlin had something to do with my CLM, since I had blinking issues since putting everything back together after the fan mods. I still need to clean all the contacts on the CLM which is something I haven't done yet.

So as it turns out though, the very first thing I swapped out in an effort to fix my above mentioned problem with the focus yokes was my HVPS. And guess what... that fixed it!!!!!

I can't believe that the dots stay soooo small all the way to 100 contrast!!!! Wow! Thumbs Up
They weren't bad at my normal contrast range. But as soon as I started going upwards, man would the dots flare out badly!

All seems to be okay again. Smile

This is almost too funny...

2211 focus mags are from AMPRO!!!!!

Rotating the magnets around the tube neck was Ampro's way for raster centering. There wasn't alot of adjustment any other way. Marquees have a nice centering system but it isn't used because of the centering capability of the Thompson mag.

what model ampro uses these?
what other yokes do they use. I'd like to get hold of a set that has astig control.

Those 2211 focus yokes do indeed come from MOST AmPros. At least, every AmPro I've personally seen that had
Panasonic tubes in it, had those focus yokes. Several of those were donor chassis, ready to be stripped for usable
parts, including those yokes. I THINK that at least some AmPros that had Sony tubes also had those yokes.

I decided to try a 2211 in my 8000 on a lark. And look where that led... Shocked Very Happy

I'm very glad that some of you are continuing the development of this idea. I'm simply not in a position
anymore to do any further development on it as I sold off my last PJ except for my own personal unit,
which of course sports Mk. IIs.

I never seriously considered getting the mating connectors to fit the stock 2211 yokes, opting instead to
solder the wires to the board in the name of reliability. A soldered connection, if done right, is more reliable
than any connector.

But it's a bit trickier, too.

Uhhhh ohh I can feel the Ampro's colective GULP. SO besides the ES models most Ampro's use these coils? Does that mean the Ampro's ahve better spot focus?

I've got a set of 22-11's that I paid $70 for earlier this year that I'd be willing to sell.

The ampro 4000's did not have these focus coils, btw. But it's an ES machine, which as you mentioned above, would not have the 22-11's.

Yep, they say 22-11. Dunno what PJ though, I bought them from the classifieds here on curtpalme awhile back. I'd have to search for the add to see what it says!
