Hello everybody,

Merry chrismas,

This is my first post as I am in the proces of changing the bellows of my marquee9500lc.

I have drained the chambers and took of the old bellows.

Now before putting on the new bellows i wanted to clean everything well because i will put in new glycol.

I tryed to clean the surface of the green tube first and this is what i get after having used cleaner spray for my glasses.

Is the tube ready for the bin now? Is there some coating on the tube that I wiped off?

If i put water on the tube you don't see it anymore.

Any help would be welcome?

Best regards,

Ron.

Looks like there might be some fungus still on the tube face, use a stronger cleaner.

I can't really tell, but it looks like your L/C chamber's anodizing is wearing off on the lower right corner, or there is some fungus there too.

What is safe to use guys... bleach, CLR, or some kind of degreaser?

No coating in tubes face glass, you can try bleach or even razor blade to remove residual crap.

C-element is plastic and have AR-coating so don't use strong cleaners for that.

I'm not sure about Panasonic CRTs, but many CRTs have an anti-reflection coating.

If that's what it is, having just most of it isn't going to help much anyway.

I would remove that with very fine rubbing compound applied with a clean microfiber cloth. This won't harm the glass.

You should mask off the CRT face and paint the inside of the chamber with VHT black epoxy spray paint, available at your
local auto parts store. Let it cure for several days before attempting to refill the chamber with glycol. What this will do
is seal the weak or damaged spots in the anodizing on the chamber parts, and will help keep the glycol clear and long lasting.

Athan came up with that one. I think it's a fine idea and I follow it.

The gak on the tube aside, it's a shame the raster wasn't maximized better. The wear is minimal but may be visible in bright scenes if you set it up the correct way (by using as much of the tube face as possible without going off the edges).

hello everybody,
Thanks for your answers,

Just a few remarks,

The coating on the aluminium housing is intact and is not coming off. The white spots where not there before i used the cleaner so i think its some residu from what I was trying to clean of off th tube. Also the original glycol was still very clear (just slightly yellow). The bellows where just sweating

I bought this projector in a good but partly dissasembled state with all the parts needed to do the refurbishing (new glycol, red C element and new bellows, squeeze mod done, LVPS checked and modified) from a CRT lover who had a 9 inch barco himself

It's a pitty indeed for the wear because the red tube is in mint condition and the blue tube i would give it a 9 rating. I didn't clean this tubes yet (I just wiped all the glycol off with some kitchen paper as good as I could)

I will set it up as if the wear is not there and if it's too visible then I'll try the method written on curts advanced procedures page to even out the wear. Would that still be possible with the green tube in this state?

Now that i'm writing I could aswel ask what would be the best cleaning method for the C elements (with alcohol, glasses cleaner, water deminerilised water?)

Thanks again for your quick aswers.

Best regards

Ron.
