Hi!
There is an old man in my area who used to do some business with crt projectors, now he is moved on rptv-s, but has some stock. He has an electrohome marquee he can't tell the exact model, but it has 9" LC tubes (the lenses were took off). He said it is generally working, but it has some trouble with the composite input (after 5-10 min the picture going off) but no problem with RGB, two of the chambers are now bleeding, but virtually absolute no tube wearing, it has green C-element, red and blue are clear, I think he would give HD10 lenses with it. He asks 500$ for it. Is it worth that price?

Hello

Get the information from the label in front, model, build date, chassis version (38P-xxxxx) and we can tell you what it is.

Not a bad price if its not a 9000LC. You can get replacement Bellows from me on the product sales page in my signature link.

No one really uses the composites any more and instead try to feed Blu ray to the Marquee either witha Moome HDMI input card that goes right into the back of the marquee or with an HD Fury, or the external HDMI to RGBHV device preferable the Moome Ext HD.

Have fun with it if your take it. It might need more work so make sure it at least fires up and all tubes light up
with internal patterns showing. Also if you can have him keep it upside down so no Glycol leaks onto the back boards.

Glycol is highly corrosive.

I'm no expert on pricing CRTs, but the big factors is:
It works, and appears to have good tubes.

Even though the tubes look good, check the P19 voltage. There have been many snow-white tubes with weak emission. (i.e. weak/dim light output) If P19 is good, then it sounds like a decent to good deal to me.
It does needs new gycol (possible bellows), and a possible replacement board.

At worst, you could part it out and break even.

This label is on the case? Because this machine was striped out of its case (but it has a case) So I only could see the LVPS and HVPS, can I get any info about their serial no. ?

It's OK, but the glycol still bleeding -not very much because I didn't see air bubble in the chamber, just a little "water" on the bottom side of C-element sealing. The machine sleeps for a while, what if some glycol gone in either PS, it has to be cleaned up (or at least looked over) before firing up. An incautious powering up should kill the machine, shouldn't it? -even if it really worked when they send to sleep. So fire up or not to fire up that is the question. Smile

if the bellows feel moist you have to take out the tubes (or he does) and drain the glycol-glycerol mix at once.
do not flush it through the sink.

38-p15297-st, this is an example, you can find it under the front lid that is over the lenses.

For the P19 voltage, reference Tim's website: etechvideo.com.
Reference "Marquee Gray Scale Setup" step J.

Look at the rest of the website for other good info.

Isn't it P-14 voltage he should be checking? I am not aware of P-19.

Sorry, P-something or other...
You're probably right. It's in the link.

....Just checked, you're right. Check the P-14. (not P-19)

Ok, I got the infos.
Unfortunately didn't have the chance, to turn it on...
The marquee is a 9000: Model: 38-P13092-94 1994. JUNE Serial:04242001
He has an other one, it is a 7500: 38-P11075UK 1995. OCTOBER (this one is literally good, with HD8 lenses)
The solutions:500$ the 9000, for ~875$ I can get both marquee. Or for 1000$ I can get both marquee + a NEC 6/9PG plain or plus (don't know exactly) good condition, with a lot of spare boards.
How does it sounds to you?

if the 9000 tubes are good and you transplant them into the 7500 chassis, you could have a decent set. You most likely still need 3 new bellows though, so you'd have some work to do.

Now I get both for 750$ Razz We fired up the 7500, and got picture (at least menu), plus got a gift set of HD10(plain) and an ACON camera.
What is the difference between 7500 and 8500? As I know the 7500 is an european 8110. But the 8110 differs from 8500 only in the stigmator, right? It seem the CLM of the 7500 has a stigmator waveform daughterboard, so this is really a 8500?
The fact that the CLM dated to 1996 but the chassis label dated to 1995 means that the CLM had changed?

Hello

You can add zone stig to an 8110 (or 8000) with addition of a stigwave board, stig amp board, and swapping in the appropriate focus yokes and flare yokes. The CLM will detect the addition of the stigwave board and enable the adjustments in the service menu.

Now I performing the "usual" recapings and mods on the boards and I have a couple of questions.
The first is related to mechanicals: I have a hex-key set with sizes 2-2,5-3-4-5-6 mm. But I actually can't find any screw on the machine which would match these sizes, the most weird for me the little screws at the top of the LC chamber: they bigger than 2,5 but smaller than 3. So what size(scale) does marquee screws have?

Other question is board related: the Marquee 9000 has the stigmator amp integrated on the convergence board? (it has 6 connectors on the conv. board; 9" tubes have 5 connectors per tube while the 8"s have only 4)

The two machine came from the same place, and I think some boards are mixed up.
The CLM board which has stigmator waveform daughter board is dated to JAN 17 1996 (which means it is newer then either of my chassis)
I suppose it is not the original CLM, is this a newer 9000 CLM or an other? it is a 03-263336-03p issue:5 (U35:V3.3, U16:V2.4)
My other CLM is dated to AUG 17 1995 #:03-270336-03 (U35:V3.1 U16:V2.3) I think this belongs to the 7500.
The newer CLM better?

Hello

Excepting the yoke clamp allen screws (3mm) all the other fasteners on the Marquee are English sizes.

The 9000 has stig amps as part of the convergence board.

The CLM with v3.3 is preferable as it has H Linearity adjustment.

yes, newer is better Smile
Look for a newer Stig amp off an 8500/9500 and use it with the newer Convergence and Vertical boards on the heat sink. MAke sure the seller also sends the 2 steel clips for the transistor/heat sink.

What is so wrong with the original 9000l boards? I mean if it is recapped and looked over well it could perform also well. I want both machine to work, the electronics of 7500 are way much better? The Marquee primer says the 9000 and 9500 performs similarly.

I have an other question: I have a spare set of HD6C-ML color filtered lens is it worth get an adapter to change the HD8s on the 7500?

Yes the electronics on the 7500 are better. On the 9000 and 8000 there were many many service bulletins that had to be done, it got to the point they needed to redesign many of the boards. The 7500(8110) has the newer designed boards. I would take the 9 inch tubes and
put them into the 7500 chassis, also take the VNB's(neck boards) from the 7500 tubs and put them on the 9 inch tubes. Also the focus coils so you can get electronic astig if they have the extra coils.
