I have a Marquee 8500, software v3.3

I use an HTPC (with girder) to control a number of my components, the Marquee included. All my other devices (Preprocessor, Video Switcher, etc) have 2-way rs232 comms, which let me to both send commands to the device, as well as query the device using rs232 commands to determine the current inputs, etc.

With the Marquee, I can successfully *send* rs232 commands from the HTPC to the PJ, but I do not receive any status feedback.

After reading the technical bulletins, it seems like v3.3 of the Marquee software only allows me to use my HTPC to emulate the key presses of a remote control, and does not seem to facilitate 2-way comms between the Marquee and the HTPC.

When I read the V4.0 (or greater?) software bulletin, it seems like 2-way comms have been enabled???

Is it an easy task to upgrade my Marquee software from v3.3 to v4.0 so that I can get 2-way communications working between the PJ and my HTPC?

Thanks for any thoughts!

sure, you'll need an MLCC chip puller and the correct U35 control chip. Or, you can buy a complete control module with V4.0 or greater software.

Thanks Drag - I have a PLCC puller that looks like this:

and an IC puller.

Is MLCC something different? Do you happen to know how I would check to determine if my version of the U35 control chip is adequate for the new software chip?

Hello

The chip puller pictured is what you need, I know those as PLCC pullers. I have firmware chips in stock, v4.0 and above, PM me if interested.

Other than communications is there any other benefit to updating U35 on an 8500?

Yes; H Linearity adjustment was first seen in U35 V3.3. Those owning 8000s or 9000s would need a newer v3.3 control board for this.

I searched but couldn't seem to find out what the most recent version is for U35 firmware? I saw some 4.2's and a reference to 4.4?

I have a non-Ultra 8500 with MP mods.

Are there any other firmware dependencies on other boards to worry about, or is it as easy as buying the latest U35 and popping it in?

Hello

The compatibilities of firmware chips (U35, U16, DPB U7) were never well documented. Ultra geometry functions were available in some chassis before Ultras were introduced, primarily the Dome model. So v4.0 with IOP3.0 and D5.20 would support V Skew and Top/Bottom Keystone. Those not needing complex RS232 comm will be okay with v3.4 and higher.

I have the entire manual for V3.3 firmware. I think I also have something on version four....I'll check.

as Tim mentioned if you go too high you will need to start replacing other chips. To the best of my knowledge U35- V4.0 will work with U16- 2.4 and U7- 5.2 which is what you should have now. I believe I ran this combo in my test-mule recently.
