Just came to find on the front stoop my 1st Integrated Tubed Amplifier!!!

Its a beauty!! It is a H.H Scott 299 C. 40 watts(38 actual from some research) per channel.

These were made between 1961 and 1964, not sure what year mine is.

Its in really nice condition and there was another one that I was bidding on that went for 680,
I got mine just over 200 less. Shipped really fast in 2 days USPS from NYC.
Not bad for a 40 pound package via the US post.

Letting t warm up in my house for a few hours before i try to hook up my Turn table.

Here are some quick pics!!

Very nice, that's worth a few $$. To think that I junked a crapload of similar units in elementary school and high school as I learned my trade. I sold a Leak monoblock for $15 at a local swapmeet. Bet that was was worth $1K today..Sad

Damn if I didn't just google it, this is the one I sold exactly:

I worked a double today so i didn't hook her up yet.

I will use a pair of AR-2's that I modified years ago with new soft dome tweeters, I forgot the brand but they were over 100 bucks for the pair. I also redid the crossover with solen caps and better inductors and other parts. Also i used silver wiring inside. The woofers could use new foam but the speakers sound way better than stock.

I am now looking for a matching HH Scott Tube tuner. have the LT110 or LT 111 in mind or the 350 D.

There a re few 299's on the bay right now. Mine looks better than those and one that sold a couple days ago was also mint like mine but went for close to 900 bucks. I always try to by large cost items that end on a holiday, mine ended on the USA Thanksgiving right around 4 pm. Everyone is out or eating so I had little competition bidding Smile

If you notice your input switch you will see one labeled "NAB TAPE". This is not to be used with a conventional tape recorder that has electronics. It is made for the extremely low output directly from the playback tape heads. If I remember correctly, Viking made some decent but inexpensive tape decks with direct output from the tape head. Beside having very high gain, this input also has a de-emphasis curve similar to the RIAA curve used in the PHONO input.

could it then be used for say a second Phono input or is the gain not the same?

I haven't had time to hook it up, snow storm here had me snow throwing the drive and going for Joy rides in the EVO Smile

I tore up all the plastic covers on the underside though Sad ehh who needs them I'll just rip them off. Very Happy

Why? Just to have a set? If not, just use vinyl, tape or CD... FM sucks these days. Not only is it noisy, rolled-off and dynamic range-compressed all to hell, most of the time, the source is now compressed MP3 that wouldn't sound good before it got broadcast.

The gain is probably fairly close, but the NAB curve is quite different from the RIAA curve, so the frequency response would be all F-UP.

Hey guys, I need a new Rectifier tube for this.

Has anyone used "re issued" tubes before?

I was looking at a Mullard original built in the famous Blackburn plant. Not sure if its used I thinks it is NOS
but its for about $70 compared to over 100 for others which also are not clear
if used or not.

And Partsconnexion in Hamilton has one new one left for 100.

The re issued ones are much less, like 40 bucks.

Just wondering how good they are compared to new or very good used originals.
