|
|
Hello, first of all, as usual, sorry for my english!
I have a strange bg808s. In the back label it is described as a Data 808s, but it has Sony tubes, scheimpflug, and it says Graphics on the initial screen. Production year 2004. The previous owner told me that it was some sort of special order for an Italian reseller who buyed 10 projectors in block from Barco.
I buyed the projector about six months ago, and everything functioned very well considering that it has only 750 hours of life.
A week or so ago, i started hearing strange Tick sound coming from the back of the projector, but with no problems reflected on the image, everything was good. Two days ago, the image started some strange trembling, there was shrinking and expanding borders, then after 30 mins or so i started losing focus, and the image continued to tremble with added darker bars moving up and down in the lower part of the image.
I can hear sounds coming exactly from the part where the quadrupler is bolted, like a bad electrical connection, and the G2 neckboard leds get synchronized with those sounds afte 20 mins or so.
Part number i can see are those:
EHT r762716
QUAD r762717
SPLITTER r762718
Firmware 7.41
I don't know where to look for the MB PN.
I see that there are many post here, and over the internet about those r762717 faulty quadruplers, but each different problem is connected with tubes or projector shutdown. Mine continues to stand on for as long as i need (max tested for about 3 hours). The problem get worst, then stops, the start again......
Don't know what to do, now that everything was almost finished, after my second hand bg808, this new sharper hd144 fitted black painted unistrut mounted beloved crt deserves me that!!!!!
HELP!!
Greetings from Italy!
P.S. sparky015 sorry if i never let you know, but the lenses arrived in perfect shape and works perfectly! Thanks!

Sounds like your quad is leaking HV to the case. Time for a new quad.

Try mounting a piece of plastic between the quad and chassis and use nylon screws to hold it in place and see if that stops the arcing. Also start looking for a new quad just in case........

I disagree.
There's no way to test any of these parts without swapping them. If you want, I can test the quad, splitter and EHT board. In your case I think it's the splitter.

Hello, thanks for support, Curt do you think it can be the splitter also if the sounds are coming from quadrupler?
If it is the splitter, i think i read that older bg808 ones are compatible, and i have a bg808 working condition. For Tom W, will this solution be just temporary or definitive? It can be easy to do what you say, i will try. Is there something i can look at to see if there are problems?
For curt, i'm in Italy, how expensive will be to ship the parts to you dor cheking? In casae of damage do you have spares?
Thak you very much, greetings from Italy.

I've had an internal arcing splitter cause the quadrupler to make noise. Drove me insane trying to find it. I put in 4 quads and EHT boards before realizing that maybe the problem was somewhere else.
You'll need to check with the Italian post on shipping costs, I know to send the 3 pieces from me to you is about $65.00 or so.

Oh, yes, the 808 splitters are compatible, so feel free to try and swap them.

Like Curt said try replacing the splitter and if your lucky it is not the quad or EHT.

I will swap the splitters this afternoon, i will put the old bg808 one into the bg808s. Is there something in particular that can be difficult in the procedure? taking off the cable desoldering the coax?? Thank you so much!

I don't do Barco's but you shouldn't have to de-solder anything. All the HV leads should be connected with twist-locks and come right out. That and a couple of screws that hold the splitter to the chassis is all it takes. Some will suggest leaving the PJ turned off and un-plugged for a hour to insure all high voltage is drained off first but I've never had a ppppprrrooobblleemmm

There is a little white bipolar cable.
C'e' un piccolo cavetto bianco bipolare.
Evito di dirlo in inglese perche' stefuel lo ha scritto: togliere i 4 cavi HV e' facile, basta ruotare l'aggancio e il cavo si sblocca.
@Curt: Official Barco's document said that swap older elements with newer can cause problems (oscillations in case of splitters). Are you sure?

Yes you need to unsolder the feedback cable from the splitter which is coax cable.

YOu can interchange all splitters without issues. THE quadrupler and EHT board needs to be changed as a pair if you're switching from old to new, although the old style quads seem to work fine with the new EHT boards. New quads with old EHT boards will blow the old EHT board within minutes usually.

Well, thank you all, especially Mr CURT PALME!!!!
I know only another person as good in this field, an italian technician who use to write on "avmagazine forum", Memo.
You both were right, it was the splitter. Changing it all the rumors coming from the quadrupler are finished, the image is stable, and the only problem is that i can't focus the image right. But i will start over all the setup process to be sure!
I know that is not necessary, but i can confirm that the old Barco 808 graphics is swappable with the 808s one. Will see about the focus! Thanks to everybody on this forum for your support! Thanks a lot! A special thank goes to Decibel, from Italy, he is always the fastest to help!
