Hi,

I have a 1998 Marque 9500LC with 10L Lenses.. My issue is my screen is not small Smile

I have a 4.2m x 1.8m 2.35:1 Screen (Which, if Pythagorus' theory is correct is 4.57M diagonal - Approx 180 inches)

Here is a 3 year old photo.. not much has changed. Screen is Da-lite Audio Vision.. Gain is 1.0

My question is, what would be the best lenses for me to get for this screen size? I'm guessing (in worst to best order):

GT17
HD10F (From a 1292)
HD10F (From a G90)
HFQ900

Would I be correct? Obviously there is a price / performance equation in the mix somewhere, but I don't know what would give best bang for the buck.

If you have a set to sell, please PM me.. Im in New Zealand.. so shipping is a must.

Regards
Daniel Parker

First you need a second Marquee to either Blend or stack!!! thats just too big a screen. it will be a dim picture.

But i have a set of HD 10 F's from a 1292 if your interested, I think also a set of HD 10GT 17's I need to check.

You are primed to do edge blending, perfect screen size and 1.0 gain. You should try to visit Gino in Cairns and see his edge blended setup!

For that size screen, you'll need either the HFQ900 or the 10GT26 lenses.

What are you getting on your light output? It must be like 3 or 4 ft/lmbs. I would blend for that screen size.

More info:
I run it at 817 x 1920, via a Moome card via HDMI from a PC. I have done the 235:1 mod so I can squeeze vertically to this ratio.

Light output has never really been a problem, although I have no numbers. The room is 100% light controlled.. even in the middle of the day you can't see your hand in front of your face with the lights out.

A blend is not an real option for me..

As I run at 235:1, does this give me any leeway with lenses, as my corners are not as extreme as 16:9 or 4:3, or does it not matter?

HFQ900 or 10GT26 lenses sound hard to find Smile

Looking the other direction (Old 1208 on the roof.. Now my 9500 is up there):

A blend might not be an option, but a maid might be.Laughing

Why isn't a blend an option? You are using a PC. There are now a couple of software options for blending with a PC from a couple of hundred dollars to free.

This room is a 'work in progress'.. but yes, it does require a clean up. Smile

A blend is not an option as it would require a 2nd 9500.. and I only have one.. (and a Barco 1208, but I don't see that working).. also roof mounting two projectors sounds hard.

I understand what you are saying. Being in NZ, I am guessing that shipping is expensive. Still, I think two 8500s would be better than one 9500. I will leave Nash to make an opinion on that.

On the lenses, I wouldn't spend that much on them based on the size of your screen.

But in the end the total light output on a 1 gain screen can't be any higher than 3-4 ftL I'm guessing. It may look fine, but that's only because you're used to it. If you saw what 10-13 ftL looked like you're prefer it a lot more I think.

Your right there Eric. When i was first starting the blend and had it on the floor i also had a 9500LC set up.
the two 8500's were much brighter than the single 9500LC. After seeing the difference, not only in brightness but in clarity only a blend can give, I moved the 9500LC out of the theater and its sitting in the same spot since.

I have a good set of 10GT26 lenses - FREE - but that's only if you were able to show up and take them away.

I don't want to get into shipping them anywhere or trying to figure out how to box them up. And I don't want to get paid to make that happen either.

I would also paint your walls a darker color...Your will loose a lot of contrast from the white walls. By far the easiest thing to do.

Hmm.. Thanks for the offer Mike.. I'm not quite sure on how to take you up on it.. I don't suppose there is anyone reading that can collect from Mike on my behalf, box & ship etc.. Obviously I would have to make it worth your while.. Flights from NZ to Maryland don't make it easy to do in person.

I would, but I am not allowed too.. Smile

I wanted the whole room to be black.. I managed the roof and front to be dark purple, and that was as far as I got on that discussion.

Like everbody says, your screen is far too big for a single 9" machine. If you doubt that, try bringing the PJ in closer and see what it looks like when the screen is "only" 8 feet wide...or seven feet, or 6 feet.

You will get a much richer, more satisfying picture.

Seriously, there is no reason at all why a blend isn't an option for you. I think you can afford getting another 9500 and I do believe
it could easily fit into your system.

Lenses won't fix your problems. A second PJ WILL.

Get another 9500LC with good tubes, and between the two machines, two sets of HD10GT17s or maybe some HD10Fs. HD10E/HFQ900s
would be the best way to go, but they're in short supply and high demand.
