A friend of mine has bought a previously good-working Sony 1252QM. It worked perfectly when the former owner stored it. However, prior to the sale, the projector did not start up. My friend bought it anyway.

This is what happens: the fans rotate and the CRT's light up a little for a while, then the set shuts down with, usually, error codes 08 (V-stop) and sometimes 10 (HV-over).

There's no smoke and no smell, so I guess it's not a case of caps that gave the ghost...

Any clues as to where to look first?

Check the two boards on top for bad solder joints and loose connectors.
You may have luck if bending the boards a bit gets the 1252 working again, you then still need to find out what's wrong.
[edit] This topic is 4 years old so I think my typing was wasted time Very Happy

It was a problem with rust/oxide at the DC & E board at the end.... should I add fans to keep the Pj cool? It does not seem to get really hoy it all, but just in case... have you ever add a computer fan to a Pj for such purpose? The CD & E boards were really dirty with oxide and I just removed them and cleaned them with a knife being very careful of course.... it is running great... I just check last nigth the light bulb hours and they say 1600 hrs... is that good?....

too many newbie questions.. sorry !!!
