Well I finished my third set up and the picture looks real good but...........
there are a couple areas when I try to dial in ZONE
where the line either maxes out or it "snaps" for lack of a better way
to explain it . IT snaps over the convergenge and then doesnt
quite want to line up correctly.
I am assuming I did something wrong with the initial physical set up
but I have no idea what.

When you first started your setup, did you reset everything to null ?

On a Sony, I believe that is 128 in the menu for most settings... I used to know how to return ALL settings in a Sony to null, but I can't recall right this second...

There is a definitive sequence for any crt projector, basically its optical focus, astig, electronic focus, redo optical, then raster centering, then recheck that hasn't negatively affected your electronic focusing work, then center mechanical convergence, then rough in geometry on green, then recheck center mechanical convergence, then start convergence.

On an NEC and Sony, convergence is done in a definitive order as well so as not to have the wave convergence elements working against themselves or the final touches of point or zone convergence. The order is fairly well defined by the order that the various convergence options appear on the remote(on an NEC, can't recall the Sony remote layout exactly right now). Basically its Tilt/Skew, followed by Bow, then going back and forth between Amplitude and Linearity. When the basics of that are done, you *should* have pretty much straight and parallel lines established, and converged over most of the middle, then you need to work on the outsides and corners where Keystone and Pincushion have the greatest effect. ONLY when you're done ALL of this should you use the Zone convergence on a Sony or the Point convergence on an NEC, and ONLY on areas that you absolutely can NOT correct with any other convergence control.

I hope I haven't just insulted you by spelling out what you already knew, but if you follow that general guide to setup, you shouldn't have any areas that "snap" or don't converge, and your setup should be stable as well...

Don't do it with a cold projector, obviously, let it warm up with video for 20 minutes before you start the procedure.

Your convergence board could be bad as well. It's not designed to be set up hour after hour, that stresses the board out, and the C board in the G70 runs red hot to start with. See if the convergence snaps while you're watching the set image. If so, I'll bet it's bad.

I did go through and set everything I could find to 128.
I did NOT follow the order as you stated above.
I will THIS time.
You cannnot insult me about my total lack of knowledge
I DO apperciate all help and also candor, I appreciate
constructive criticism.
I thank you all for putting up with me all this time
Every time I do this I learn a little more and my PQ gets
a little better. THANK YOU VERY MUCH !

I dont understand what you mean by watching the set image.
IT only SNAPS while I am trying to adjust zone,when static it doesnt move.
you meant the pj image right?
