The anodizing looks really good , like new , but look at the crap I just emptied out of the worst tube blue. I don't know where all these contaminates are coming from , it looks like old RTV fragments.
Maybe it is. How long did you let in cure and what brand ?

SweetChuck, I have no idea. I did not pot them. I bought them that way but the tubes were recently re-potted.

I cleaned the new rubbers with alcohol and water and I thought I got all the crap off the front of the housing from the old silicone , I let the new black RTV cure for 1 week . Filled with brand new gear and 3 months later here I am !

I have 10 or so bottles of the MG Chem Glycol & just used 1lt of it in my G70 ,
I personaly dont think the Glycol is the Issue as they all use pretty much the same 2 main ingredient just different ratios..

Did you fill the glycol through the fill holes? And if so did you thoroughly clean the holes and screws. If there was any dirt or rust in the holes then it would contaminate the glycol, even the smallest amount.
I still say the face plates might have lost the anodizing. It s a greenish grey color. if it looks more like aluminum color then its gone.
also it has a texture to it, almost a knurled feel to it.
Also try to use new screws and fill as much glycol into the chamber before putting the c element on. I also did not ever use RTV on the bellow. the ridges in the design are enough to make a seal. I never trust the seal with the RTV as I feel it compromises the design .

I can't speak for Sony, but I have seen darkend with age coolant on every other brand of LC projector. It would be interesting if someone had something from Sony listing what brand of coolant they use durring manufacture.
Of course the key to anything liquid related is to start out absolutely clean. I have done Marquee tube swaps and can say that it can be a pain to get all the sealant particals out especially if you are not removing the bellows while doing it.
I have not done this with a Quee coupling (with tube installed) but I have with a AmPro coupling.
Strip all the magnetics off the tube. Put clear packing tape over the tube label (or it will get ruined). Drain the fluid and remove the c-element. Stand the tube up face down in the dishwasher and let-er rip. It will come out clean and sanitized.

"I just emptied out some Ampro housings that had that same issue. Discolored Glycol and what looked like RTV specks too. The Ampro housings don't have bellows at all and are painted black [I think it's paint?]"
No bellows??? What do you think is under that aluminum plate with ten screws on it?
I have seen AmPro couplings that were painted by hand with epoxy type paint and factory coatings that look more like powder coat than anything else. Powder coating is cured with heat and quite strong.

Under that plate is an expansion boot to allow for the expansion and contraction of the heated fluid within the chamber.
Or in other words, a bellow.

I think the rust problem comes from the screws , I can see rust marks around the threads and on the tips of the screws, I'll get some new stainless steel ones tomorrow, all tubes had a browny discolouration , the anodizing still looks good a greeny grey color.
Anyway back to my dilema , what about a 909 ? as a replacement, I hear they are tough to get parts for though. Are they really any better than a G90, is it just the higher bandwidth that makes them better ?

Do you mean wash the tube in the dishwasher, using the usual soap and a normal program (e.g. 40' at 100°F)? I'd be a little worried, but maybe I'm wrong...

Jezz that give me the shits !! I always thought 1500ml was enough for all tubes ! looks like I'm 80ml short in each , GRRrr .. Is there anything I can top this off with thats readily available , like glyserol from the chemist, Vodka or something ?? It's a bit expensive that stuff here , $20 per 500ml
Hang on ? Vodka's not cheap either !!

those bubbles will disappear in 2 weeks time and you need 2 litres for 3 tubes but you found out now.
75% ethyleenglycol 25% glycerol.
when you go and get new screws let me know the measurements of the fill screws and the screws that hold the aluminium plate that holds the bellow.

I think Dragan has both of these screws in stainless steel.

Noice!!! I just love that case! Er... I mean, terrible, terrible machine... ugly case...so much maintenance... worth nothing on the used projector market. So when you sell it, let me know! I'll use it for parts on my 8500!
Hey...looks like you have a well set up "Man Cave" there too.
As much as I want you to sell it (to me for next to nothing!), maybe Mike Parkers mods and dragann's upgrades will give you the brightness and potential stability you need to make it better and cheaper to stay with your 9500.
If you do seriously want to sell it, I reckon I'll have some funds, time and interest in about 6-9 months time... which is probably when you get your G90 (if you ever get one). But alas... digital is beckoning.

Yeah, after seeing some recent digital machines, that are too quiet to hear, and throw a picture with shadow detail that I have never seen on a CRT, and for cheaper than a G90 with no hassles to go with it, I wouldn't buy another CRT now. Mind you, we have had a bloody good run with them!

Not sure why you would be part of any CRT forum with that view let alone two forums.

Because I love the damn things, and love tinkering and pushing them to do stuff that was never imagined when they were designed. I've repaired god knows how many of them and had a great time messing with ways to improve them.
But for picture quality, they have been surpassed, and in a smaller unit that is dead silent and doesn't *require* messing with scalers and HDMI converters and hushboxes etc. If I was buying something to replace my projector now, I'd get something that gives me a better picture and doesn't make a sound, and that is (finally) what the latest crop of digitals manage now.
But my XGLC won't be going anywhere for a long time, I don't have the $$ to be replacing anything for some time.
