Well I have a whole different arguement here. First He's said he has no time to tweak anymore so where is the time coming from to learn a new PJ and still but fewer tweaks? For my money, if that Marquee is in good shape and has red and green C-elements, I'd keep it and use the cash for a pro calibration from someone who knows what they're doing with a Quee. Unless you plan on being the last person on the planet to switch to digital, I'd keep what you have.
Food for thought. Might you be pleased with the sharpness of your test patterns if you switch projectors? Perhaps, but you will not see it viewing full motion video on screen. Would you be happy with the color reproduction of the G-90 over the Quee? Perhaps, but back to the correct c-elements thing. If they calibrate out the same or even close, could you really tell the difference watching a movie? Nope.
You'll notice that I haven't even mentioned the other other 9" LC projector (MINE). I would be pulling your legs if I claimed that I could keep up with the Quee or the Sony in the sharpness department. However, that's only one aspect of the total image. I would be willing to put my projector up side by side with any other CRT projector using full motion video only as source to decide which you like better. I wouldn't pull my 4600HD down if there was a NIB 909 sitting on the floor in the same room. I'd sell it to some wingnut who is convinced he has to have it and laugh all the way to the bank

Where is everyone getting the idea I'm some kind of newb to CRT ? , I've had around 20 Projectors of all types overs 15 years . There is not much I need to "learn" even a G90 , I've had a 1292 and a G70 and they were so basic, to me the 9500 seems to have an industrial feel and not so refined, it also lacks some adjustments I miss in the Sony chassis .
You really want to know what has pissed me off about the Marquee? all problems now resolved though, so here goes
Had intermittent Arcing since delivery
Said arcing has taken out Focus boards x 2 and H board
Leaking bellows didn't help
replaced with new updated bellows , suffered 2 x fungus attacks since , and don't know why, despite High purity coolant!
Replaced HV splitter , found to be issues with worn stand offs to the anode caps
No corner focus just astig
Remote is retarded almost more so than the NEC XG
Lack of tight point registration
stupid flapping focus
I could go on but I am trying to sell this PJ
All I want is a weeks setup and leave for 6 months before touching , Ya know ! So I can enjoy whatever crap comes out of hollywood these days without dreading snap crackle and pop!

I wasn't suggesting you don't know what you're doing but it seems odd that you don't have time to correct the Marquee but you do have time to start from scratch with another used projector. The next time my CRT comes down, it stays down and a digital goes up in it's place. Have at it.

You might have aluminum faceplate that has lost its anodizing. No matter how well you clean the chamber it will grow fungus in a month or so. Or you did not clean the release agent of the new bellows.

In the service menu there is a 5 zone focus adjustment, not the corners but
the edges, the "flapping" tightens the corners up. But who watches corners?
| Quote: | | Lack of tight point registration |
Your convegence timing might be off. there is a super secrette service menu that can adress
that and other parameters.
Is your Marquee an Ultra?

Chuck,
I understand that the Marquees are crap. I don't think anyone was saying you didn't know how to set these up. I was just saying that a pro calibrator would remove that chore from your list. As for having issues, all of these pjs have issues. I have one fully working 909 and a G90. The other four are in various states. If you don't want to worry about it, then buy a JVC. Of course, if you are hell bent on a G90, then I will make you a deal on mine.

So what do I do about this? , I have the tubes out now as I have some floaties that look like snot !! Do I have to resurface the face plate or is there some additive I can use to prevent this ? I really really don't want to remove the bellows on this again , what a suckful job !

Do you have any dark spots on the face plate inside the chamber. If you do thats corrosion. it will eat more and more
at the face plate and contaminate the Glycol, grow fungus etc.
There is some work involved. remove the tube and bellows, cover the Tube with painters tape and paint the aluminum with black epoxy paint. Or have them re anodized but thats some $$$ and more work.

The anodizing looks really good , like new , but look at the crap I just emptied out of the worst tube blue. I don't know where all these contaminates are coming from , it looks like old RTV fragments , I'm going to give these a very thorough flush and new glycol , this stuff I emptied also has a pinkish tinge to it .
I just realized this is the first Fungus attack since the new bellows , I've had multiple problems with the old set .

I just emptied out some Ampro housings that had that same issue. Discolored Glycol and what looked like RTV specks too. The Ampro housings don't have bellows at all and are painted black [I think it's paint?]
Maybe there's a batch of bad Glycol out there over the last 2 years?

That badly contaminated Glycol looks rusty beides the Silicon fragments, looks to me like nashou is right..
Contamination could only be coming from the chamber or Bellows no..
Did the new set of bellows get thoroughly cleaned before the first time you installed them?..
You would'nt see this issue with A G90 ..
Cheers...
