|
|
hey all, need some help. though i cant resolve 1080 or even 720 without crushing my lines i want to add a blu-ray player to my htpc. i feel that i will still benefit from the blu-ray because my ATI hd tuner looks great. i have a few question hopefully i can get cleared up while im out of town but close to a compusa where i can pick up a drive.
the pc i was intending on using for the sole purpose of playing blu-rays and dvds is an asus k8vse deluxe with an amd 3000+ 9 (2GHZ) CPU, and an ati x1650 agp video card. i will be using vga to rgbhv cable. can this pc do the job? can i still create my custom resolution with powerstrip?

Single core will struggle unless that video card has video acceleration. Also on the older systems the SATA chips sometimes don't like the bluray drives.

If that machine is AGP then it won't work from what I've read. I think the video acceleration is PCIe only.

True...I wasn't making that claim...just that the 6600GT was AGP and it had HW acceleration.

I spent many years working with hardware acceleration and it RARELY works with AGP video cards. now, it's true that the card may support it. However, good luck finding the correct video drivers and codecs that work together without issues.
I have had it working on a p4 2.8ghz and dxva, but it was very difficult to get working.
if at all possible, upgrade to something newer that has pci express graphics. you'll save yourself a ton of headaches.
