I got the Barco 909s on Tuesday. I finally got a chance to play with them a little today. All I can say is wow! The menu looks light years more advanced than what I am used to. Of course, I still don't know what I am doing.Smile

I plugged in my laptop and unfortunately I am limited on resolutions. I used a bedsheet for a quick screen and wanted to see what I could resolve. Well, I know I can do 1600x1200@60 and it looks like a digital. Thumbs Up I saw in the menu a block for 2048x1536@60. I don't know if that came from the factory like that or the gov had it set up with that resolution.

The Fearsome Foursome

The faceoff with a Sony G90. I think the Sony is outnumbered.

The Barco 909 ummm yeah mounting the G90 to show it whose boss!

The Barco humping my leg to show me whose boss.

The hours menu.

The pattern I believe Scott has asked people to post in the past. I used the Nokia pattern. Now this is on a bedsheet and you can still easily make out the resolution of 1600x1200@60 in the upper left hand corner. This was about five minutes of focusing.

This is the upper right hand corner.

I need to read up and get a better understanding of what I am doing. I am scared to undo the settings right now, because these are the first Barcos that I have played with. Judging from the Cine 9 manual, I may be missing some of the menus. First thing I usually do is look for a crosshatch to align the tubes, but I couldn't find one. I also didn't see the basic menus for contrast, brightness, etc. You can adjust them on the remote, but a display doesn't come up. I will look some more when I have time.

I did notice that it has edge blending. Do I need to show Nash how it is done?Mr. Green I guess I would need a good screen first. I am going to try to get up to Piedmont Plastics tomorrow and see about getting a sheet of Sintra.

As for what I am going to do with them, I haven't decided. I know I told Nash that he could have one for a good price and I would deliver it. Unfortunately, I may not be able to make it up there. These pjs are in my father's garage, so I may have to get rid of them sooner than I thought. I think my father and Curt's neighbor went to the same school. Shocked If Curt makes me a good enough deal, then I would sell them to him. Smile I know I have gotten a lot of PMs and emails about these things, so I will make a decision soon.

I'm assuming the rippling is not the screen, it looks like scan line overlap? Do a 'set to midposition' and see if it goes away. I have had two here doing that identical thing (not as bad as yours are showing) and it was the system board. Not repairable, at least not by me.

Let's hope it's not that.

Anyways, super nice score, I concur with the finger pointing post above. Smile

They look sweet!!!!! Poor Sony Wink

Not sure if you tried to call me today , I left my Cell at work and didn't feel like going back to get it.

I spent the evening cleaning up my small shop area in the basement.

Are'nt you keeping one for yourself?

Don't worry about trying to get up here anytime soon.
I need to make some CRT carts for the Ampro and G90 and then the Barco Very Happy

I envy those that can setup and calibrate their own CRTs. Must make the CRT ownership so easy.

That is odd as in theory the 9x9 should have more options than a Cine9 from what I have read. Looks like you get a good haul there, congrats.

Dude, you could do a cube or a stacked blend... that would be something I have NEVER seen in a client's home... either one.

I would keep at least two of them if you want to run a single, or I would keep at least three if you plan to run a stack or blend. If a control board goes in one of those you are hosed. Barco wants $5000 for them and they are not repairable most of the time. It is WORSE than the G90 IC421 problem because the Barco control boards fail more often (read very often).

You could do a stacked blend and only run one for each side at a time. That way when one dies you still can keep running the stacked blend Shocked

And BTW the G90 will focus BETTER than the Barco's will. G90 and Barco are similar in performance, but the G90 has more bandwidth and better flapping capability... but they are close.

Actually the G90 and 909 are so close in the things they do, and the time they were released, that I have always thought one company was spying on the other, or the two companies collaborated on the projectors. My guess is Barco spied on Sony because you know how Sony loves to keep their secrets and doesn't like to share.
