Hi all,
I know this is probably a pandoras box but is there a "best" way to ensure longevity of the components in the G90.
Eg) Is it better to turn the PJ off at the mains when not in use or is it better to leave it on standby when not in use. I would probably only use my PJ maybe 1 movie a day average. the rest of the 22hrs a day should it be completely off or just leave it in standby. Will standby hurt the circuitry or does the constant on-off from the mains hurt the circuitry more or am I just paranoid?
Thankyou all who contribute.

It's been recommended to put it on a UPS battery back up. A big one

I just turn off my Barcos. Unplug them in the summer if there is a chance of thunderstorms and I will be away all day....

On my marquee I just unplug it after watching a movie. But they were designed for 24/7 power

I leave it in standby 95% of the time. Its attached to a high quality power conditioner/surge protector but I'll unplug from the mains if I'm away on vacation or know a thunderstorm is on its way.
If you do decide to unplug it and power down, make sure the Dallas chip is in good condition. A functional Li battery in the chip is needed to retain all your user settings, calibrations etc. If the chip is still original definitely get it replaced as all the G90's are around 9+ years old at this point.

Yes that was my main concern HaydnG90 the dallas chip. I replaced the chip when my G90 arrived (I lost all my settings tho) so it is a brand new chip. If I leave it in standby does this save the battery in the dallas chip?

Well perhaps the reason I've had such good luck with my AmPro 4600HD is because ALL my HT devices are plugged into a GIANT APC rack mount UPS. This UPS has a feature called "smart trim and smart boost". This is a user definable set of parameters where the UPS kicks in if the line voltage goes above or below the set points. I have had no equipment failures for years now.

I go with an APC UPS for all my gear. NEVER a problem.
And for longevity.... Organic food and a glass of Wine for dinner.
I'm doing quite well, Thank you!

The Li Ion battery isn't rechargeable. When current is put through it for the first time a connection is created (or broken) and its then 'activated'. This means the chip is consuming power from the internal power source whether the pj is on or off. Hence the need to replace every 10 years irrespective of the hours on the chassis.
