how can i convert an avi 2 channel av/v format to dvd 5.1 format??

btw , i have dvd flick and always use it , but is the avi format is only in stereo, then i was wondering if it is possible at all to get 5.1 sound.

You wouldn't want to just put the stereo channels in all 5 channels. You'd have to mix the front two for the center, and you wouldn't just want to mirror the front to the surrounds.
What are you using for your audio? Most processors will do something like an "All Channel Stereo" mode when they see a 2.0 signal, and just fill in the surround and center with audio derived.
Lots of old movies are Dolby Digital 2.0. Nothing wrong with that.
