|
|
So, I bought some HD145's and now the dilemma of how to fit them on my bg808s. The projector is ceiling mounted and I REALLY don't want to take it down. I did some searching and found a way to hack apart the HD8 mounts and glue in the HD145's. Not sure that's such a good idea.
I've seen the Joust adapters but I don't want to invest that kind of cash. Maybe if they're second hand? Also. do those adapters require you to have the projector down?
Someone mentioned a thread with templates you could use to make your own. I can't find those anywhere. I could cut them from plastic possibly if I had the templates. Anyone have copies of those templates one could print out?
Another dumb question. Once I do this, will I need to move my pj forward?
Thanks!
Dale

Yes you will have to move your projector or screen about 12 inches closer together. You do not have to pull down the projector to mount the new lenses. Buy the Joust adapters new or used.

Argh, 12 inches. That means I'll need to take it down and move the uni-strut mount closer. yikes...

Thanks, I did read that thread, but found no templates or measurements on how to diy. The originator was a guy from Finland named Bjorn, and I found his website that tells how to do it, but again has no measurements or templates to follow. I suppose when I get the lenses I could just use the base as a guide?

Once you try the the new lenses you will never go back to HD8s ! Better overall focus and Reds and Greens will look far more accurate.

Actually about 8" less throw distance for HD145's on an 8 foot wide screen.
(it's the 144's that are 12" closer) Best to check with PJ on moveable cart.
Also, the lens to tube spacing is quite important - for an 8' screen the
lens will be very close to the tube face. Hence all the cutting and spacing, etc...

dale | I think that Bjorn posted dimensional drawings to avs, so he probably still have that.
Here's he's email.

It's not as simple for 808 that it's for Marquee, problem is that you have to get hd144 base inside original tube/lens frame that is hollow aluminium casting. So it can't be just machined, it need something to hold lenses there also.
If I were making this for myself, I'd investigate if it's possible to make just four small profile clamps per lens and cut holes to original tube/lens frame to get space for these. That should be easiest way I can think of and pretty simple adapters to make.
If this is working it's better than Bjorn adapters, because original Graphics Sheimpflug can still be used.

I'm getting quotes from a few local shops to have mounting plates cut out of aluminum. Thanks for your help everyone! I'm super excited to get the lenses mounted!

I think you will be quite impressed with the HD145s, they blow away HD8s for sharpness, I have a friend whose using a 1272Q with the stock HD8's, he wants my HD6s from my currently non functional 9PG.
Enjoy them
