here is the HVPS specs and they can probably make then to any spec.

Yes but they need to make a profit. I'm sure a short run of anything will result in a hefty price tag. They are of no value if they are more $$$ than a used projector is worth.

I wonder what the insulating qualities of regular clear 60 minute epoxy resin is. I think color is added to it to hide the works. If you could remove the old potting material and redo it in clear, you could see where it's breaking down. I do have a vacuum chamber to get the bubbles out.

You make the spacing right even fiberglass resin will work for potting material in a HV component. Check the attached pic. A HV supply can be made without a multiplier section. You can stack secondary windings (4 x 9kv) in the flyback transformer and directly output 35kV. The second pic shows this. Two transformers are needed as one is only capable of 2ma continuous.

Hi tse,
Can you share the specs on the HV xformers in the picture? For the barcos they basically start with the 300vdc applied to the primary of the HV xformer then they pulse switch the ground leg of the primary with a 100KHz sqwave with a 10uS on time for the older version and the newer version have a 10 on and 6 off I believe. Then the secondary of the xfomer goes to the multiplier circuit(diodes/caps). What kind of input do the ones you're experimenting with require?
Thanks,
Walter

I now have three quads and EHT boards in stock, subject to testing before I sell them. Actually, only two sets, one is sold already..

Here are a few suppliers of high voltage transformers... |
Penn-Tran (Wingate, PA) used to make the yokes for Barco many years ago..
They changed their name to Wintron in the 90's, were bought by VDC, and rolled into Lexel Imaging more recently.
They would also custom-build any sort of transformer in small runs (20 or so at a time), I used them for a HV transformer (flyback) for a vector-graphics monitor in the past.
this is interesting:

Somebody please send me a dead quad so that I may do a thorough autopsy on it
Also, anyone care to guess if a carbon track would show up on a X-ray???

I've already taken apart 3 Barco quads or should I say dug out all the potting compound and it was loads of fun too.

I've played a lot with this, and on many quads, heck, even some that still work, you can draw an arc through the silicone or back block part by touching it with a grounded screwdriver tip.
Some will short internally (caps, diodes, etc), but my guess is that the silicone is mainly to blame. |
I wonder if a spacer of HV plastic placed on the bottom of the quad could reduce arcing and failure ?

I have a Barco 1100 quad, if that will do anyone any good. I think at one point Curt wanted it, but he must of forgot about it.
