Nope, that's correct. It's a BG808s with 12" tubes. A couple of people here have seen those units. Apparently a typical 9" set is sharper according to those who have seen them..designed for simulation use, not for HT. The set was offered to me about 3 weeks ago. I told him I'd give him $250 for parts.

I guess his expectations of a selling price are somewhat higher..Very Happy

These 12" units are all about light output. As Curt said, a 9" is better for HT.

It's legit, he sent me a number of pix. I was hoping for a 909 chassis, but nah, it's an 808s.

The 912 is much better than the 812.

912 is based on the cine 9 electronics.

a set of tubes for these is 12k and only from barco assuming they still have any. I wonder if VDC could rebuild these. They can't be that different from 9" I would think.

There is nothing wrong with a brighter image. There are forum members who have gone to great lengths to get brighter images with PJ stacks. In this case you get the brighter image without the complication. Smile

Doubtful. They have not run any rebuild batches in several years.

He might still sell it off Ebay even though the reserve was not (be interesting if it shows up again or not). These things are rare so it is really hard to put a price on them. I personally don't think it is worth that kind of money these days (especially if the high bidder hadn't inspected or won't before paying) but I think I have seen only two or three of these including this one for sale in the last 10 years. For somebody who wants to play around with admittedly one of the rarest CRT projectors on the planet the price might be resonable. The last one 3-4 years ago went for $4k on ebay I think (it was from MI as well as I recall, I guess automakers we big buyers of these).

What I find interesting is just how cheap all CRT projectors are getting in the unwarrantied secondary market. The recent sales of of the Barco 919s for less than $1500 each, a couple of EH 9500s in for less than a $1000 and so forth.

Sec,
Those Barcos only went for that price, because no one knew the condition of the sets or the tubes. Well, no one except me. Wink I have already had multiple PMs and emails about buying them. I am not doing anything till I get them, which will probably be on Tue.

That is true to an extent (along with the fact that they were grouped together). But in 2006 the first two Barco 909s on GL went to $6k each in HI and nobody knew the tube condition (Greg Eiseman got them sight unseen and paid $$$ to get them from HI). They had high hours and no phosphor wear but needed new tubes as the emission were low (they had 18k hours as I recall but a lot was in standby). So the GL price has dropped massively in less than four years. I have no doubt you will sell them for more than than that because you will be able to give the buyers more info and you are breaking up the lot into individual projectors. So in 4 years the GL price has dropped nearly 80%. If it continues I might just get my $300 Cine9 in another 3-4 years (don't laugh my current Runco 1100 (1209s) cost me $100).

As an aside any visible tube wear is going with that simulator "half moon" wear pattern is going to be noticeable and impossible to stay in. So an 8 with that wear is not the same as an 8 with 4:3 or 16:9 wear. The tube shot you provided of the green in the other thread is an unusable tube if you are bothered by tube wear at all. Hopefully the other greens are better.
