no go for a 9500 ultra and do some tweaks, you will be amazed.
buy the bellows from nashou just to be sure.
going for a 8 incher doesnt make sense these days, that is if you are not going to blend.

with the current prices of 9 inchers?
you bought a g90 not too long ago for less then 1000 dollars, if hdale has some patience something nice will come along for him and he could get a 9500ultra with decent tubes for a fair price.
the only pj that still goes for a premium is a br909 or cine9, still i prefer the marquee .

yeah, but he is in Ohio, like me. I have never seen a 9" machine come along locally in the 10 years I've been in this hobby. I agree wtih Nash, an 8" Marquee is nice, and then it can be upgraded like I did over time.

Well I'm going to keep an eye out, and I don't mind traveling up to probably 4-5 hours away. As long as it's only a day long trip.

There was a Runco 1100 in Lancaster, County PA for $200 within the last few months. Not Ohio but no too far either. Also a minty Barco 1209s Data went on GL at the DRMO in Cleveland about 4-5 years ago for about $2k but this was when 9" sets were worth 5-10k. There have probably been others but I am a bit far from Ohio so I don't spend much time looking there though the Barco Data 808s I ran until last year came from the DRMO in Cleveland. So good things do happen once in a while. That said I still think 9" sets because of their relative rarity are still and exception rather than the rule under $1k. You might find one tomorrow or in two years or never who knows. 8" sets are great but not so much if you really want to do 1080p. I would still be running by 8" Barco if I hadn't got a super cheap 9" set (actually two). To get a bargain 9" you need to be willing to travel and constantly monitoring all places you might be able to find a projector and move quick.

Yes, you can find good deals if you wait and look around. The problem I see is that we have now gotten through the summer and prices will rise.
The fact is the OP and others who want to get into CRT should see a set up and then decide what they can live with. I always laugh when someone who hasn't seen a CRT in action starts with I am looking to purchase a pj that does 1080p72. Most are then surprised that 1080i96, 720p or 1080p60 on an 8"LC is more than satisfactory.

Well like I stated earlier several times, the thread was more to judge if it's possible to meet my goals on my budget. I never said it was the only option. I've already considered just getting a 8" and running 1080i or 1920x820 72 or something of this sort.
