Putting a little something together for my father in law who's on a limited budget. He's not REAL picky but I do want him to have an eye pleasing display. What do you guys suggest? I have a NEC 6PG that I could give him but at 75, it really needs to be more of a plug and play solution. I don't know a lot about digitals, but was thinking that one of the 720p DLPs might be the answer. I'm posting this here because everyone knows that the CRT hobbyist knows EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!!

Which ones would you suggest and what price range should I expect?

Thanks!

Budget?

I would suggest buying a used digital for as close to free as possible if the person really doesn't know or care. For people that have never seen a big picture, any big picture is impressive. Buy an extra bulb. That should be the biggest expense.

Get an LG HS201, if you can still find it. The HX300 hasn't made it to the US yet, and supplies of that one are also limited. Only 200 lumens, SVGA, 80" diagonal focussing limit, but Phlatlight LEDs rated at 30K hours. It only draws around 50 watts of power (not sure if you need to double that for 120 volts), and you can flip it on and off instantly, without waiting for the lamp to cool down. It was around $500,-. This may work very nicely as a big screen TV, and most 75 year olds watch a fair amount of TV.
