|
|
Hello everyone!
Yesterday my G70 shut down with an error code 33 immediately after power on.
For 10 years there were no major problems with G70.
My G70 is equipped with Moome's HDMI 1.3 input board & silent fan replacement according to AVS forum guide.
I love this PJ very much.
Today I verified all 4 HV lines are securely connected to the splitter.
What should I check out then?
I desperately need your help.
Thank you.

You may have a shattered tube, a bad CRT socket/neck board or problems in the power supplies or PA board. Without board swapping, you'd need to send those boards in for repair. Most likely it's an issue with a tube, a CRT socket or the PA board. I can repair them..

Glad to hear from you, Curt!
If I send the parts to you for repair, which parts should be separated from PJ.
Could I do this by myself? PJ should be down from ceiling?
TIA

No, you can take the boards out while the set is on the ceiling. THe PA board is under the green lens, under the metal cover. You need to take the plastic lens cover off the set (take the top cover off, clip out the lens cover, unscrew the metal cover over the PA board).
The CRT sockets come off the back of the tubes, and each wire unplugs from the CRT socket.
Be careful with the thin black round wires. Grab the metal connector at the PC board, and wiggle the connector off, do not pull on the black wire, or you'll pull the wire out of the connector!

For reassurance, the parts for repair:
1. CA board #1
2. CRT sockets #3
That's all you need?

No, not the CA board, the PA board.
Email me at curtpalme@shaw.ca and I'll tell you how to send them in.
Thanks!
Curt

OK, PA board.
I take the PA board off from the PJ.
Now three CRT sockets will be detached and I'll send an email to you.
Thank you, Curt!

If you haven't already taken it apart you might want to first check for a broken tube before shipping? On power up there will be a bright Orange flash in the tube neck before the set shuts down. I saw this once on a low hour G70, Red tube

I checked several times before taking the part off with PJ cover opened.
Every power-on resulted shutdown of the PJ with error code 33.
There were no noticeable visual incidents.
And I already dispatched the parts to Curt.
Anyway thanks for the comments and wish me a luck!

I asked to Curt for repair of the parts.
He checked the parts, and revealed the problem on the PA board.
Yesterday I got the parts back.
After reassembling of the parts...
Wow! G70 works perfectly!
The error code has gone away.
Thank you so much, Curt!
BTW, my CRT time is about 3300 hours.
How long can I expect G70's beautiful pictures?

Bone,
Please be careful of the SilenX fan mod as those fans can stop working and NOT, I repeat, NOT register an error code to shut down the projector. If the front fan should stop and it not shut down the projector, it will fry the PA board. Please see this thread where Craig Rounds suffered a fried PA board from this very same situation. Fortunately for him, he is more than capable of repairing it.
