I have a 1209s that has a very large case on it. It was a SEOS machine. I'm wanting to line the insides of the sheet metal to deaden the noise from within. I looking for the best material to do this with. Some areas it can only be 1/2" thick, others it could be 1".

I guess my question is are you trying to keep the noise out and the heat in ? The 1209s is not all that noisy but not sure if Seos made a few changes to the fans on your projector.
Insulation works both ways and it may require some before and after temperature testing...

The extra heavy duty, extra HEAVY duct tape is the best cheap option I know of. It deadened my old 9500's panels significantly. And was CHEAP!
I think I used gorilla duct tape? Something I found at offix max or office depot or one of those office places.

Yes, but it's not the grey crap you're probably thinking of. This is very heavy black colored duct tape. It worked great and looked fine.

dynamat is primarily for vibration dampening. It is very heavy and has a reflective character for heat so I would not use it for a projector. Tom is right. A regular 1209s is not that loud. My 1209s seos was not loud either. If it really bothers you a hushbox is the best solution.

Don't forget the aluminum panels themselves have a reflective property! Personally, I'd bet a projector's passive radiant cooling is a very, very small proportion of the projector's overall heat output compared to the active forced-air cooling. More to the point, I'd guess that putting a few strips of Dynamat on a couple of the larger aluminum case panels could quiet the projector ever-so-slightly if the panels are reverberating fan noise, but would have very little (if any) effect on the projector's internal temps.
That said, I agree with the idea that if projector noise is really bothering you, until you go to a hush box, most any other solution is going to be a band-aid that doesn't really address the real source of the noise, which is the air turbulence created by the projector's own high-RPM internal fans. A hush box is the only way to significantly reduce projector noise.

Screw those big, ugly hushboxes hiding your big ugly projector. Just do the fan mods. These projectors were all designed to work well in rugged environments. Your 75 degree year-round hospitable living room will do your projector just fine with some properly done fan mods.

Normal 120x series are very quiet with thermostatically controlled fan speeds.
Perhaps this feature has been bypassed in the seos industrial application?
Normally fans voltage starts out around 7.1 volts, and will stabilize ~ 8 to 9 volts
unless running very high scan rates or hot room environment.
This would be very easy to check with voltmeter during operation....

Depends how much you care about audio performance... Yes, our living rooms are relatively cool, but unless you reduce the airflow significantly, even with fan mods you're not going to get the projector as quiet as a hush box. If you do, then the projector isn't going to cool well, and you can read several of Curt's posts about failures following well-intentioned fan mods. Whatever you do, at least measure internal exhaust temps before and after mods so you know what impact your mods had.

I made my Marquee as silent as a 30db digital projector by just using silent fans and sound deadening. Ran it like that for about 500 hours without a single problem.
If you put a projector into a hush box, then you need to have an exhaust fan or you won't be making things any better for the projector than you will with quiet fans.
