i have a 7' x 11' screen i still have the old zenith running until i can find a ceiling mount for my new g 70's. the zenith is running outside of the used phosper area and produces lighter bars on the outside showing the unused phosper.(the pj came out of a sports bar and was set at 80". i want to set up my g 70 at roughly the size of the screen i have would that be PUSHING the tubes?

Way to wide. Go for a 8 foot wide screen

The height takes care of itself due to aspect ratio. Do you plan on using 4:3 or 16:9 wide screen?

with the zenith it is easy to switch back and forth depending on the media, i prefer 16 : 9 for movies but television seems to work better at 4 : 3

i geuss what i am trying to find out is what is the largest screen size i can run (preferably in 16:9) without doing damage to the tubes.
i saw the phrase "pushing the tubes" in another post and i did not really understand the full meaning or what would cause it.

8 foot wide andthe aspect ratio will determine the height i geuss i will start looking for some border. problem solved.
i still dont know what pushing the tubes means though.

Pushing the tubes too hard means you have the contrast cranked up and maybe the brightness too. So you can light up a screen that's too big

I've been tempted lately to add another foot to either side of my G70 screen which is currently 8' wide. It definitley feels like it could handle it. I used to run my 1271 on the same screen and the G70 looks so much clearer it seems to me it could easily handle the extra size because I have accidentally had the image spilling over a foot on either side and squeezing it back down didn't obviously sharpen the picture. I think an 8ft wide screen is a great size though.
When I sold my 1271 I passed it on to a guy who wanted it positioned for with a 12' diagonal image. At 6x8' my screen has a 10' diagonal. And yow. It looked beautiful at my place but in his place it was really soft and had poor contrast but he installed it in an artist loft with light coming in everywhere even at night. In spite of a heavily worn blue tube at my place the image still looked great because I have a totally light controlled room. My walls are a fairly dark green, the ceiling is black and I have a dark print carpet. So if you can create a good environment for your projector like this I think you can make it at least 10' wide. If you are getting any stray light at all or your walls are white, its probably wise to stick with conventional wisdom on the size.
Even the small but bright green light on the computer that runs feeds my G70 affects my image significantly enough I have to cover it.
Front CRT projectors don't even tolerate a single romantic candle burning on a coffee table well.

No other lights in the room at all. That's the way I like it

my pj is in my basement you have no idea what real darkness is. the power went out one nite and i did not have a flashlite i LITERALLY could not see my hand in front of my face, it took 10 minutes to find the stairs. i have the room covered with olive drab military parachutes it is like a khaki genie bottle. i hung them 2 feet off the wall so i have a kind of service corridor. i installed several blacklights which dont seem to effect the picture at all as long as they are behind the lenses.

Gads good luck.
There was a guy named Clarence on AVSforum who has some in his closet and was going to sell them to me for a good price.
I never could seem to get a response back. But I am guessing he still has some. Eventually after many months I just bought some heavy brackets with big half inch holes and the spacing matched my rafters quite well. I have no fears of it falling down. I also added a light cable and turnbuckle for backup for a belt and suspenders "just to be sure" solution.

Clarence cleared out his closet a couple of years back but he may still have some. Unfortunately he's not into packing and shipping this stuff much anymore.

He offered them to me last year. But I think he didn't want to dig around.

One thing that a lot of people don't realize is that when you don't push the tubes you can get better resolution.
