Ditto...

When I turn on one Marquee - I hear a click click click (relay kicking in the LVPS), the red LVPS goes on and off (as the relay keeps trying to kick in) but the Marquee does not really turn on. No time for HV crackle.

So far I've:

- Swapped LVPS
- Swapped CLM

...problem remains.

Next thing to try?

Are there any of the LED's lit on the front of the LVPS? it will tell you on what voltage rail a short might be.

What did you do recently? If you did any work on the rear heat sink boards make sure you got the ribbon cable connected correctly.

Also you could test if it is in the LVPS by plugging it in while out of the PJ i would assume.

Yes - One LED in the LVPS keeps turning on/off as the relays clicks.

The problem developed just now as I was actually watching the projector (turned on OK and everything ok) then it started to click. Next time I turned it on I started to click and it doesn't turn on.

I will try it again tomorrow with rear sink unconnected and let you know which LED flashes on the LVPS.

BTW... is there a table something with the LVPS LEDs? Thanks!

Andres, first see which LED is lit according to Tims guide.

Then pull the LVPS out and plug it in while it is out of the machine and see if it does the same thing.
If it doesn't then you have a short somewhere on that line the LED is lit on.

If it does the same thing then the LVPS is damaged internally and needs replacing or send it to curt to be fixed.

You might also try it in another PJ.

Disconnecting the rear boards will not allow the PJ to power up.

It's the -85V rail. I've also swapped HDM - same stuff. So far I've swapped: HDM/CLM/LVPS.

When I disconnect the conv/stig boards (rear sink) but NOT the VDM - The red LVPS light stays on, no relay clicking and the -85V LED is on. I.e. same stuff but no relay clicking back and forth.

-85 is also on the VNB's . Remove one at a time and try to fire up or check the umbilical cord connector on each one to make sure they are on correctly.

I think you have to disconnect the HV line to the tube that you remove the VNB to? When you remove what I think is the G2 lead, then it's possible to spot beam the tube face. But I'm not sure if removing the entire VNB negates that. It probably does, but I would personally prefer to be safer than sorry. Very Happy

Hope you get it figured out!

A disconnected vnb means no filament and no hazard to the tube.

Disconnected all VNBs... same issue, but now the +15 V LED goes on.

Swapped FGM and plugged green VNB... voila!

It *looks* like it is the FGM... but I'll re-check carefully tomorrow.

Andres, did you disconnect one VNB at a time?

Even if it did.......I wouldn't have to admit to it. I have enough parts here to completely rebuild it 5 or 6 times over. Laughing
I bought them after hearing everyone say how unreliable they were. So far I've used one focus board and three full sets of tubes.
Go ahead, try and do that with your beloved Quee Mr. Green

5 or 6 times, that's all? Considering there's only about three of those Ampros still around and working......or maybe three around with you having the only one still working. I'm thinking you should have a ton (literally) of spare part by now..

No Shocked First I disconnected all of them and got the +15 V LED. I then plugged in the green one (only) and IIRC got the 15V LED too. Then I swapped FGM. BTW, the other FGM looks perfect with no visible damage. I need to work on this a bit more.

Yes do one at a time, it still might be a VNB and not the FGM. Put that FGM back in and see what happens with one removed at a time. since green worked pull that one last.

I do not need nor will I be buying any more spare parts or tubes. When this projector is ready for another set of tubes, it will be cyclops or giant flatscreen time.

Here's something to think about. Knowing that everyone here has a jones for getting the most out of the highest resolution available, what will happen to CRT the second that 1080P has been replaced by a higher standard in the consumer market. I'll tell you....GHOST TOWN!!! We are teetering now from a bandwidth point of view with really only one projector that comes close to it's requirement. Even that one will be considered useless when 1080P ends up being the low end resolution.

Hey, I love CRT as much as anyone here but eventually we will have to face the reality of the situation and that is that to get the most out of what will be available, digital will be the only way to display it. That is the way I see it and why I won't be spending any more money on the technology.
