mike, how is this holding up we need an update Smile.

edit: what i am really curious about is, do the corners focus just as good as glycol/glycerol mix.

I've not yet tried it in my main machine to know how well it pans out in focus in any area of the tubes.

So far, it's still much clearer than the glycol, or compared to the other two tubes with the glycol on my test unit.

And when placed on a plastic coated piece of paper, it's more like water compared to glycol, which looks more like an oil or oil based substance in comparison.

Oh, and again, it will be going into my tubes in my main 9500. The only thing that could prevent that is it's cost... I have no idea what it cost.

mike i have tried demineralised water and glycerol mix in my blue tube but all i can say that it is now impossible for me to get te corners to focus, i have tried absolutely everything and when i hold a paper in front of the screen i have to move that paper approx 30cm towards the pj to get the edges to focus on both sides.
godzilla like creatures are growing in my blue chamber btw.
since it is on the blue it is not that big a deal but the blue tube is coming out once again.

edit: before you try it on all 3 tubes at once look if the corners will focus with 1 tube filled or you will have wasted a lot of time.

What is the refractive index of the C element? What is it made of? According to Wiki, silicone oil might be a better medium depending on the material of the C element.
Probably c-elements are made of acrylic glass (1.490 - 1.492).
Silicone oil (1.52045) is closer than water (1.3330) and about same amount off that glycol/glyserin mix.

Acrylic matching liquid would be best match, but look at that price. Shocked

Cheaper source for silicone oil. Very Happy

This is good site for indexes

I have access to a fair amount of the Cargille matching liquid, if anyone would like to experiment with it let me know. I have it in 1.4700, 1.4580 and 1.4560 Index of refraction.

I can confirm what Dennis wrote. I tested medical grade sterile water plus glycerol (50/50) and what I find is that is only possible to achieve optimal focus in the center of he image, but the edges remain unfocussed whatever you do.
I'm backing to glycerol/glycol mix...

Did a bit of informal research on DOT 5 and some people mention that it corrodes (i.e. "eats") rubber. Looks like I'm going to use propylene glycol + glycerin + some anti-corrosive (e..g this one http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/febafbcobl.html)...

Use what the engineers designing the projectors and coolant chambers decided to use. about 25% glycerin and 75% glycol. JMO Neutral

The heat transfer de icer from Orison has so far shown no ill affects to the LC chamber of a test tube I have the AF formula in for about 2 months. I have not tested this tub in a PJ tho. Its just a spare tube with no magnetics on it .

I have not tested the AGX formula yet.

yes tom, but if the stuff from the link works ok and the refraction index is so that i can get proper corner focus, then this is better cause it`s much less corrosive or not corrosive at all.

if anyone would care to measure the ph grade that would be nice.
mike, wink wink.

another thing i would like to know is, how hygroscopic the orison coolant is.

nash, i don`t worry about heat transfer at all, that`s the least of the problems.
refraction index, ph-value and hygroscopic behaviour are concerns.

The more important thing to me is how to eliminate leaks not so much what is leaking. Has anyone had any great success with a replacement coolant or sealant ?

well then you have not tried anything else besides the usual mix.
if the refraction index is too far off, focussing on the sides is impossible and if it is very hygroscopic (which i doubt cause they use glycol for that feature) then the bellows could leak over time because of built up pressure.

Mike has had it in his red tube of his 8500 for at least a year now with no ill effects. If you have ever had a chance to see Mike's pj live in action you will know there is no problems with focus anywhere!

I have a couple of gallons of the stuff and have planed on getting to Mikes and filling his green and blue tubes, but, just have not had the time to get there and do it. Need to do my pj also, as I have the nasty fungus floating around in all my chambers too!

Hi,
I have ordered a gallon of IceClear AF. I just changed over a NEC XG 1350 AC to LC unit. Any more info out there about how the IceClear is holding up?
Thanks,
Dan
