I have been shopping around to buy a spare power supply for my XG852 (serno # 02000699CD manufactured in Feb 2000).

I removed my hushbox to check my power supply part number and I have the Rubicon RPS-6119A (P/N 79645081). My service manual also calls out the part no. 79645081 (does not list the Rubicon part no.). The PS schematic only refers to the general 6119 number with no suffix.

I was surprised when I saw that it was an "A" suffix, because until I actually checked, I had been laboring under the assumption the 6119U was the correct one. This is because I have been shopping around for the spare on eBay and some forums and I have seen the U model listed for the 852.

I bought this projector new (I was told), so although everything points to the 6119A as being correct, I would like some confirmation from an expert or another 852 owner. The only reason I am so suspicious that I could conceivably have the wrong supply installed is because this unit has always had an intermittent (rare but annoying) hair-trigger protection shutdown (I think it was the FC error code) that required a little circuit tweak to desensitize.

So, can I trust my eyes and service manual that says that the 6119A is indeed correct?

I have a 1352 and I can confirm it has the 6119A. I also have a XG-1100 and it has the 6119U. From what I've noticed, the "A" PS is for LC units and the "U" ones are for Air Coupled.

My service manual does show the same power supply for the 852, 1102, and 1352, so I was beginning to think that at least all of the xx2 models have the "A" supply. I can't find any reference to the "A" suffix in the manual, but the 79645081 number which IS called out appears to go with the 6119A, whereas the "U" supply has a different number.

My projector is air coupled, but has the "A" supply, which contradicts your observation, if my supply is indeed correct. Which is, of course, what I'm trying to prove...

Thanks Mark, that makes sense. I knew there was a distinct place for each P/S but wasn't sure what. Adding to the confusion is my 1350 that came via EBay from an A/V rental company with a 6119A. I'm not sure what kind of Frankenstein parts changes made that work but nothing surprises me.
