The other night I was watching a movie on the M8500 and all of a sudden the picture went black. There were no warning lights on the control module, so I turned the projector off and then on again, and h.fail light illuminated. There's no picture at all and no high voltage crackle. I swapped out the horizontal board, and the problem remains. What would cause that light other than the H board? One thing I read in the archives was that a bad battery in the control module can cause certain problems, and the battery is completely dead though not shorted. Could that be it?

once in a blue moon there is some arcing on the H yoke connectors, I've had two smoke over the years. I'm guessing it's a CLM issue though, and the smoked white yoke connectors are really easy to spot if that's it.

If that batt is dead, how on earth are you watching that thing? Didn't you lose all of your settings?

If that doesn't work for you, push it off a cliff and buy a AmPro
