|
|
Sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find it by searching...
How do I get into the 'Expert' menu on a SONY G90? I know Service mode is ENTER,ENTER,UP,DN,ENTER.
My other question is around FOCUS setting values. I know if I hold the Save button it will prompt to save in Registration or Focus areas. Are those settings then applied to all other memory blocks? If I make changes and save with the single SAVE push, is that only applied to the current memory block? It seems like I keep needing to re-calibrate focus and I don't know if I'm not saving it for the intended memory block properly or what.

Not completely sure but after you're in the service mode: ENTER,ENTER,LEFT, RIGHT,ENTER

Thanks, I'll try that or other variations. I swear those codes must have been written by a former dance instructor .

Sort of yes. When you do this save procedure, it creates a base for all other memory blocks. All other memory blocks are offsets of this save.
Therefore, the first memory you create should be saved this way. All subsequent memories should be only saved with the short save press on the remote. If you do a 5-sec save later, it will throw off all your other memory blocks and you will have to redo everything.

Yes, don't hold down save for every block, only the first.[/quote]

Sounds like you are doing it wrong.

Be careful in expert mode. Some parameters are memory block specific and others are universal for all memories. For example, the 6-pole zone adjustment is one set for ALL memories. So if you mess up your 6-pole zones all your your memories will be messed up.
Also, on things like 6-pole zone, after you adjust it in expert mode, there is no way to reset it. Resetting to factory settings will not work because you over write them.
Don't mess with the zone 6-pole unless you are confident that you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the great incites. Are those expert settings part of the data saved on the Dallas chip? Just wondering if that would provide a fallback option (since you provided me a backup when we replaced my original chip)?

hmm...
I'll have to look at the memory structure again to double check, but I might be wrong on one point.
I know for sure that there is only one set of 6-pole zone data for the entire projector during operation. However, what I don't remember for sure now is if you overwrite the "Factory Data" when you create new 6-pole zones or not. On the G90 there is a jumper that needs to be switched to create new factory data, and obviously you aren't switching the jumper just to go into "Expert Mode" so I don't think you can overwrite the factory data. This would imply that a factory reset would actually restore the original 6-pole data in case you need to go back.
If this is the case, then I am pretty sure the service 6-pole zone data will be on the Dallas chip. The factory data is not on the Dallas chip though. So I think you may have two backups, one on your old Dallas and one Factory data.
The memory structure and which chip each service item is written to can be found in the service manual. Section 2-4 page 2-28 is where it starts. If you are interested you can read through the structure and learn what is what.

Thanks Craig, I'll have a look at the manual since I have the .PDF. I did some further calibration yesterday and it all works fine. I think I was just doing the extended saves from both 1080i and 1080p blocks to standard and messing myself up. The real fun has the schiemflug setup.
