|
|
Hi all, I just put the Ampro on the ceiling and have it at a different distance than it was before, I have had a look at the astig and it is off on all three colours but blue is really bad.
The blue is all over the place making convergence almost impossible and I am having to put the blue vertical shift (BVS)setting at 94 just to get the vertical lines to overlap, I remember having to move the focus coil(I think) almost 180 degrees to get the bvs on my 4300 in the right place but I am hoping its the Astigmatism of the blue causing the problem.!
I basically need a walkthrough again on how to do the astigmatism as its ages since I last did it, thanks in advance for any and all advice.
Also when I did have a go at doing it I put it on the dots test pattern and about 5 minutes into it the pj went into shutdown, is this normal? I had the contrast pretty high to see the blue flare and core.

I think it's 40 and 41 code for the master V shift.
Astig is only done on the tube necks, there is no astig adjustments in the electronics.

sorry, yes Curt I was moving the magnetics at the tube neck, I used code 41 Blue Vertical Shift to level it with the green but it ended up at 94 to do this which is very high.
What I need to remember is how to do the astigmatism with the magnets, I cannot remember the null settings for the codes 98 and 99 and how high I should put up the contrast etc, its been a long time since I did this. I just basically need a run down of each stage I know you have to use the dot pattern on test and moce dynamic astig (code 99) up and down to see if the dots move but cannot remember the rest!
Also is the a reason the pj went into standbye after 5 minutes?

1st, you will not get round dots using the internal test patterns. They will be lima bean shaped. You will be fighting a losing battle. Use a external (480P) pattern for this. That way the dots will be big enough to actually see what you're doing. Astig adjustments won't change the amount of B and R vertical shift much. This is more of a mechanical problem (physical magnetics positioning or projector installation not correct).
That's all I have to say about that without sounding like a broken record.

Thanks Chip, you jogged my memory as to how I did it the last time, I used my Quantum Data video generator like you suggested and then did the astig, I went up to the loft to get it put it on and guess what its dead, I got it a while ago from the U.S so maybe it just died who knows.
Maybe I can get some test patterns and use the HTPC.

Hi Incova,
Adjust astig with registration off -code 55
Use Code 98 -static focus- to move focus and adjust sot shape. The dots should not move as you go from in and out of focus.
Code 99 i(dynamic focus) is used after astig adjust for getting overall best focus in corners.

Looks like I have to get another test pattern generator and get back to it!

For now settle for the internal test patterns. You'll be able to center the core and get the shape close but not perfect.

Mine (4600) goes to sleep after about 5 minutes of the internal test patterns too; I think it's supposed to do that but it's still frustrating. Test patterns from the DVD sold on this site are sharper than the internals and you don't get the urge to break something every time the pj goes to sleep.

I got the dvd but for some reason my internal astigmatism test patterns seems to show up better than my HTPC/dvd patterns for astig. I used a external pattern generator for the 4300 I have but thats broken down. I think our pjs go to sleep to prevent burn on the crts because we are pushing the tubes at 100% contrast, not sure though I think that was the reason, very difficult to do astig like that.
