|
|
Hi Folks,
I usually rip my Blu-Rays to BDMV folders. My receiver is capable of decoding DTS-HD or Dolby TRUE-HD.
However, my graphics card (HD 4550) where I play the BDMV folders from is not outputting any of these two format nor is my receiver able to apply Audyssey while decoding DTS-HD or Dolby TRUE-HD.
Therefore, I would like to decode the lossless formats to LPCM. Since then, I know, that my receiver will be able to apply Audyssey and I would get the same bitperfect experience as if I could bitstreaming DTS-HD out of my HTPC.
My questions are:
1) Can I achieve this with EAC3to?
2) Can I leave the rest of the BDMV folder as is (without creating an .MKV archive)?
3) How long would it take to do the conversion approx. for a 90min movie using a single-core processor?
4) Do you know of any issue or problems if I would do that?
5) Can this be automated for several BDMV folders?
6) Is there a chance to keep the DTS-HD or Dolby True-HD track intact, e.g. by adding a LPCM track to the BDMV and the menu?
Many questions, but I am sure that I can find the right people here which can help me with these questions!
Thanks.

I'm currently also using an HD 4550 video card and when I play back my bluray content with PowerDVD it converts to LPCM and sends to my receiver. What does your receiver see whe you play back bluray content? Also what program are you using for playback?

I am using the latest version of TMT (Total Media Theatre) on a WIN XP Sp3 machine.
I haven't used the high-res audio formats yet but I would like to. So far, I have used the core DTS and Dolby.
I would like to find a way to send the high-res audio formats to my receiver as LPCM via HDMI 1.3 but being sure that they are untouched (e.g. resampled or remixed).
I am not sure what ATI HD 5xxx and the its drivers do , when TrueHD for example is being decoded and uncompressed to output 7.1 LPCM. W
What I want is the lossless compressed and coded high-res audio to be decoded and uncompressed but keeping exactly the same bitrate and sampling-rate. This is the only way to make sure that there is no loss in sound quality. How can I make sure? Does anyone know a perfectly working combination of videocard, software and drivers?
If there is no "on the fly" solution, I would rather use a batch-job of Eac3 to convert the tracks on my own. At least to test and to see if I hear any difference (I have a rather good equipment of speakers).
Regards,
Paul

Just set TMT to output 5.1/7.1.
But the best way to do this, is to convert the disc to a .mkv file with lossless flac audio, and then watch using reclock as the audio renderer, and madFlac as the audio decoder. Reclock bypasses most of the "windows" part of the audio path. (But I still think you should use Vista or W7 - they have better audio sections).
You can use a player like Zoom Player or MPC-HC, or KM-Player.
And you will be able to use madVR. You can even add digital room correction to the audio if you like.
It would take a essay to explain it all. Have a search and a read first please.

Dear Mark,
thanks alot for your answer and hints. I will try that.
If I would convert to .mkv , are there any drawbacks, e.g. having only the main title or having no interactive menu?
I have looked at the players and renderers , I think there are many thing for me to discover and to try out. -Very- interesting possibilities such as DRC, I havent even thought of.
But one more question: which of the players and renderers would support the graphics adapters video accerelation best? I am asking because I play my blurays from a single core machine (Pentium 2 Ghz).
Thanks alot again.
Best regards.
