So would you care to say what you think instead of hiding behind a picture?
What I stated is fact. I did exactly what I said, with a Sencore CM2125 monitor analyzer, which I bought specifically for a few tests like
that, and later resold after I wasn't using it anymore. (I made a nice profit on the unit. too, come to think of it...which is kind of unique
for me as I usually take a loss on things like that.)
That thing goes up to 2048x2048 and supports up to a refresh rate of 250 Hz...but not at the highest resolutions, of course.
There's no BS here. Just some facts and, admittedly, some of my own OPINONS, but no BS.
Please do us all a favor and don't introduce any contentious comments into the discussions. This is a friendly bunch and I think we'd all
prefer that it stays that way.
If your interpretation of the truth is at variance with what I or anyone else posts, don't post a picture that's meant to be funny but suggest you're thinking BS. Try instead to articulate a countering argument, replete with factual information.

Chris, that was not meant for you at all, its between Mac and I. Just joking around, I have no idea how you thought it was directed towards you. Unless I missed something...?
Looked back now, my pic was related for an apple thread where mac and i were messing around I must have clicked the wrong post and his Shovel pic was there which by coincidence related to the apple thread! Weird ;D

I thought he was posting a pic of a shovel because he thought the BS was getting deep, reference my previous posting. Your inflatable turds reinforced that suspicion.

I've ran 1080p72Hz on my 8"NEC and 1980X800p also. On my NEC it didn't look much better then 1080p, frankly I could hardly tell a difference.

Don't take this as a knock against your projector, but it takes a well tuned 9" PJ to get the most out of 1080p. 8" machines just don't have adequate MTF capacity to fully resolve 1080p from end to end. If the video chain is good enough, there's the CRT's limitations. If that's good enough, the lens can be a limiting factor. And even if every stage is 95 percent of
what you'd need to totally resolve 1920x1080, with at least three stages (Video bandwidth, CRT focus, optical focus) in
play, then you're losing over 15 percent of your total bandwidth capacity.
I have yet to see a "real world" 8" machine that actually can reap the benefits of 1080p. 720p is close to the sweet spot
for any 8" machine.

I'll agree...with an XG is seems to have a bigger issue with horizontal resolution, vertical I could resolve fairly well. Here was a 1:1 screen shot @1080p@72Hz. Soft yes but the lines show some definition.
Horizontal 1:1 wasn't this good...I think that's why 1920X800 didn't look so good. 720p on an XG sucks ass...I can see scan lines at 2 screen width. I've settled in at 1600X900 and that's where I'll stay for the rest of the life of the projector.

I am about to a family reunion, so I will address this later, but MTF wasn't linear going up in res.

All CRTs have a bigger issue with horizontal resolution, not just the XG...
In the horizontal direction, resolution is most constrained by what Mike Parker calls the video chain's "speed" - basically, the video chain's slew rate - in essence, the frequency response. If the video amp's slew rate is too slow at a given frequency (resolution), the transition from black-to-white and back will be soft like a sine wave - resulting low MTF. If the amp's slew rate is fast enough at a given frequency, the transition from black-to-white and back will more closely resemble a square wave - resulting in a higher MTF.
In the vertical direction, the tubes (beam sharpness) and lenses (optical sharpness) constrain resolution.

Here's the thing, though... For an HTPC, your resolution probably makes the most sense. You use your HTPC for other stuff besides just watching movies, so UI elements like buttons, menus, etc. are all sharper at 1600x900 than they would be if you were running 1920x1080. But, I assume you used computer-generated test patterns like from Nokia or whatever to arrive at your 1600x900 rate... Well, that's not really ideal because you're leaving the true source out of the equation... The player software has to resample the BD from its 1920x1080 to display it at your 1600x900 resolution... So, the real question is, do movies look better, worse, or about the same? The true test would be looking at a resolution wedge from a Blu-ray disk (which includes the source resampling in the mix) and comparing the wedge at both 1600x900 and 1920x1080. I'd be curious as to the results.

I don't want to misrepresent anything Mike may have written... I'm just paraphrasing; it's my understanding of what Mike was getting at in some thread a year or two ago.
If you take issue, then that's fine... How is it inaccurate/wrong/etc.?
