|
|
I've had a Moome DVI input card in my Marquee for a couple of years now.
I also just bought the newest Moome HDMI 1.3 card but it hasn't arrived yet. It'll be 2 or 3 more weeks and that's fine.
But, something I'm not clear on regarding the DVI card is, is it intended to be used at up to 1080p, or not?
I'm running a first generation Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray player into the Moome DVI card via a longish HDMI cable (7 meters)
and an HDMI to DVI adapter at the Moome card.
Due to installation limitations I can't use a shorter cable.
1080i always works.
1080p works about half the time.
On any given day when I turn on my system, either it'll give me a picture at 1080p or it won't. Whatever it does the
first time when I try it, it'll continue to do all day long. If I don't get a picture at 1080p when I first try it for that
day, I'll NEVER get 1080p to work that day. But it also will never FAIL to work at 1080p for that day.
But shut down the system overnight and tomorrow it's another coin toss. Will I get 1080p or not? Whatever the
answer, it won't change at any time tomorrow.
The player is updated to the current firmware revision. It seems that this HAS helped to get a good link at 1080p
more often but it's still a crapshoot.
So, is the DVI input card supposed to handle 1080p? It does...but not every time.
It's kind of a moot point since the new card is coming, but as I'm going to give the DVI card to a friend of mine
who has a Marquee also, I'd like to know.

Hey Chris,
I have the same v1 moome with DVI and although I never seriously attempted to make my 8500 take 1080p in the past (before modded VIM, NB's, and a truckload of caps) the few times I did try I got mixed results too. IIRC I had bigger problems with the pj not syncing every time. The HDM would cycle all over God's green acre before finally settling in. I've yet to try it with my current iteration but it's on the list. I'm personally happy, or used to be anyway, with 720p for most things and 1080i for PS3 BD.
I do remember thinking at the time how nice it would be if I could keep the ' * ' page up that allowed me to see the frequency's.
I have to get my hands on the Moome VIM-FULLHD v2 HDMI 1.3 card too but that's going to have to wait. Hopefully I won't wait too long and he discontinues making them. I like the internal solution for HDMI but I'd consider the EXT-FULLHD v2 once I learn more about it.
http://www.curtpalme.com/Products.shtm
Kal...if you read this, the Products page text in italics for the EXT-FULLHD might oughta be changed...it states
Includes an HDMI 1.3 input, adjustable gamma boost, adjustable RGB output level (0.7-1.0V), and toslink audio output.
but when you click on that product the next page verifies there are actually 2 HDMI inputs. Just a thought so prospectives don't see the 'an' and move on thinking it only has one input.
I need to post a FS ad for my moome DVI card, a Fury GammaX, and a Fury 3-way HDMI SmartSwitch. Then I'll get either the box or the internal and we can compare notes.

yes it is designed for 1080P. Your having either a hand-shake or cable issue. BTW, I would be interested in your old DVI card for my test-chassis in the shop when you get the new one

It's already spoken for, sorry. But if the guy who gets it decides to upgrade to an HDMI card, I'll set this one aside for you.
My cable length is 7 meters which is probably too long for a guaranteed handshake, but I can't reduce the length as the equipment
rack is up front next to the screen and it's not practical to move the rack to any other location that's any better.
I did notice that the reliability of the link at 1080p has improved since installing the latest firmware update to my player. Now I get
1080p about 3/4 of the time.
