Ampro had a similar design but the lenses were arranged in a T .

Facilitate convergence adjustments! At once! To facilitate the projection size change!

It has been done. It is not very good.

You still have to converge all three CRTs. No advantage.

The optical core is expensive to make.

The projector is bulky.

No, not a good idea.

How much light is lost in the "x" cube?

Image is not a ladder, and can be full pipe surface. Therefore, the brightness will not be reduced.

It has been done. It was NOT good enough to keep doing it. Too much light was lost in the prism assembly and you still have to converge
all three tubes.

It is a PROVEN Bad Idea. Don't waste your time on it.

I say go for it. Very Happy

I know it's far from the same thing, but the first thing I thought of was the old JVC CRT projector with it's mirrors.

My design is more simple! Prism light losses are small, do not worry! I am worried that diffuse, polarized lenses may need!

Laughing That's quite the beast Eddie! Looks like the ceiling of a studio. Laughing

I say go for it too. I didn't think this hobby was to 'prove' anything to the world but rather to have fun. If the guy is having fun who cares if it ends up the worlds most expensive shadowgraph and is only good for hand puppets. Wink Who knows..he may hit on something that will open up a market for 7" tubes. (That's a stretch but you get my meaning).

Distance of R & B are different than G.

You will loose a LOT of light due to distance to lens.
I would estimate 10-20% will come out the front vs what is generated by the tube.
Even though phosphor have some directionality when generating light it's still not enough for having the lens that far away.

There is a paper somewhere around that discusses the "directional" phosphor vs normal lambertian distribution.

Hello

Dichroics do not work immersed in fluid. In air, the light loss is near 50%.

Many excellent engineers have tried many configurations for CRT projection.

Only one CRT projector ever used such a system as the one you describe.

It was not very successful.

I say again, this is not a good idea. It will not succeed. Do not waste your time on a bad design.

I had one of of these - an ECP Graphics... it was pretty brutal.

What are you trying to accomplish? Is this just for fun or does it have a specific purpose?
