Sure, the picture looks good and I'm nitpicking since it would be considered white, until you actually see real white. But still. |
If the gray measured correctly on the meter and you have a pink tinge than something is wrong.
However, if you ran the green gain up to max and lowered the red to near min, and adjusted blue, and you still have a pink tinge than the green tube can no longer emit enough light compared to the red and blue and you can not balance the grayscale anymore with the existing green tube.

Not that surprising. It's the one concrete thing they may actually be in a position to evaluate. And remaining life left on the tubes will be inversely proportional to the visible wear.
> Like you said, even some poor tubes can still look good if set up properly. <
Quite true. That, however, is the thing that's really surprising. |
I should have added or seen a pj yet, but you are correct.

What is the usual disparity between tubes that would render one tube unusable? Would it be say a "5" green tube with new red and blue tubes?

I just checked.
COLOR / DRIVE / G2
Red / 10 / 60
Green / 100 / 66
Blue / 22 / 65

Well, you have a tiny bit of range left. Reduce your red drive to zero. Then balance blue as best you can... use a meter if you have one
Also, cehck your low IRE (30 IRE) and set G2 to that for 6500. Changing the G2 could give you more range for the drive.

Can't say really. The condition of the gun also plays a role, not just the phosphor. You can sometimes use a tube restorer to improve the gun and get more range.
