I called to arrange to go take a look at it.
They informed me someone had already come by and taken it apart. They rated the tubes between a 6 and 7 with even wear and slightly off-center.
I live near there and, based on that information, I am interested in picking this sucker up.
If the person who checked it out happens to read this in time, would you please give me a bit more information on it? Such as why you decided to pass on it etc? Was the wear pattern close to the edge of the phosphorous?
I am just interested in it for occasional use watching HD movies and light gaming, but not for a full-blown high end home theater.

That was me. I passed on it because the thing burned in with it improperly setup. It is one thing to setup a PJ without fully maximizing the raster (because the manual tells you to) but the image was not even centered on the tube face and the wear was signifigant. You would be better off getting a well cared for seven inch machine than trying to tangle with that thing, and that's saying a lot! I'm sure most people on this forum would consider it toast. Oh, and the insides were REALLY dusty. It was probably stored in a non climate controlled environment for years. I already have three so i did not even want it for parts.
So where are you located? I don't know of anyone around these parts that is in the hobby.

Wow, thanks! I was going to offer them $75 for it based on the notes you gave them.
I'm from Lafayette, but travel to Baton Rouge most weekends.
I wouldn't say I'm a hobbyist(yet), I have just been programmed to embrace old technology that performs (or outperforms) modern versions of the same thing. Some fine examples: Vinyl records, tube amps, muscle cars, real wood floors and so on and so on.
Of course sometimes I just like old technology because it's more interactive, such as mechanical keyboards, carburetors that need adjustment, or even a bathroom heater that requires you to light it by hand.
That said, I'll make you an offer on that Barco 1208 you've got and will gladly take it off your hands this weekend! I can't PM you because I don't have enough posts, but I my number is 985-774- five nine seven one, and my e-mail is james.powell AT alumni.lsu.edu

Bathroom heater that requires you to light it by hand. Hmmm, that brings back memories. If you get off of 10 and go into Port Allen, then you can swing by my grandmothers old house on Avenue B. I still regret not buying the house when it went up for auction ten years ago.
Oh, and did you go to LSU? My mother and father went there. My brother went there for undergrad and medical school along with my favorite cousin.

I'm in Lafayette as well! You should come by the place and i'll show you my setup. I think you just dashed the hopes of a lot of guys on this forum, though. I was going to start taking it apart this weekend to distribute the parts, but if you are serious I would much rather sell it to you and see it get some use all in one piece.
I'll give you a call later on today.

@Spanky - yep, LSU. Ah, Port Allen. The closest place from Baton Rouge where you can buy alcohol after midnight on a Sunday.
Proud/confused/loony owner of a Barco Graphics 1208 now.
Fired it up for the first time last night and quickly realized I have no idea what I'm doing and no idea what my next step is going to be.
Need to:
Build a mobile screen.
Decide whether or not to mount it on the ceiling(and if so...pulley? winch? come-along?).
Black out windows and door.
Figure out where to route cables.
Get furniture.
Decide Xbox 360 or HTPC.

A winch mount is ideal so you can easily drop it. But if for some reason you can't do that, it's not hard to raise a projector with Clarence's chain method:
I took a G70 from floor to ceiling -- by myself, without any help -- in less than 20 minutes.

Oh, and if you do lift by hand using the "buy friends beer and pizza" method, be sure to take off the lenses... They add probably another 20 pounds or more.

How mobile do you need the screen?
You can go with black out cloth, DW or Gatorboard for a cheap screen. You can get Gatorboard from Piedmont Plastics in NO.

We'll have to get together this weekend and get you running. If you you want bluray capability, i would go with the HTPC... or a PS3  In the meantime you should look up the manual on this site and check some of the other links about general setup, to get a better idea of how CRT works. You will get an earful of info when I help you setup, but it's always good to be familiar with your manual.

I was really contemplating sticking around Atlanta till July, but as usual every job I had lined up has disappeared. I will probably spend the next couple of weeks getting some things done for my parents, fixing the Safari brakes and redesigning my website. If the phone starts ringing, then I will stick around.
