So I'm looking at my screen tonight watching a movie and I see this faint wide line going from left to right across the screen. At first I thought it was the PJ, but it turns out to be the screen. It's towards the top of the screen, about a foot down. I have the electric 140" wide screen. I always keep the screen rolled up when not in use, so there should be very little dust on it. No one has ever touched the screen, I have never cleaned it.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? It's only noticeable in uniform images. I kinda afraid it will get worse, because it was never there before.

Has anyone ever dealt with Da-Lite on problems? I'm going to give them a call, doubt they would do anything for me, because the screen is two and a half years old.

I talked to the tech at Da-lite and he knew exactly what I was seeing. He called it laddering. Happens when the screen is rolled up over a seam. There is a seam on my screen right at the edge where it is bonded to the starter. You see this screen is so tall, they had to add material to it to drop the screen material down far enough. If the screen had been smaller they could of left the seam off of it and ran the screen material itself right up onto the roller. I'm leaving the screen rolled down to see if the line goes away, I can imagine that this may take weeks or months.

If I knew this would happen, I would have bought a fixed screen.

I know nothing about bought screens, but could you take an iron to it? Is Da-Lite willing to work wiht you on a solution, monetary or otherwise? Seems like a design flaw to me.

So they knew for a certainty when they sold you a rollup screen that this would happen, yet said nothing. Nice.

This is the type of information that should be on a red-sheet in the instructions for a product.

I have a Model C HighPower which I level down. I had another HighPower that developed line from having the material knocked or rubbed off from rolling it up and down. It was replaced under warranty but the lesson I learned was to keep it down. I hope your lines go away and it is not from having the material damaged by the seam.
