Double check the VDM cables as well and the two ribbon cables that connect the mother board to the VDM and CVA. A v-fail should have nothing to do with the HDM. I could be wrong though, There might be a wave form sent to the HDM from the VDM i have not looked at the service manual in along time so its not fresh in my head.

Also check the small daughter board on the HDM. Remove it and clean the contacts. and if the chips on it can be removed do so and clean those as well.

This has the stationary heat sink for the back modules. If you didn't take out the V board then check the yellow/green connectors on the V board to see if one came loose.

That is a REALLY old set, from 1994. You should look for a cheap working 8500, and transfer the tubes from your 9000 onto a later model 8500...

go to the utilities menu and go to service. service code is 0901. You will be able to view the hours in there. All of this is in the manual as well. I would suggest downloading it from Curt's site, as it gives a useful diagram of where all of the menu items are and how to get to them.

That model does not have the hour meter in it I don't think. that's also why I suggested changing the chassis out to a newer unit.
