I am the proud owner of an XG852 (bone stock) and a 9500LC with early Mike Parker mods, GT17s, and the Tim fan mod (I have not forgotten your $ Tim). Both show zero to little wear on the tubes.
The statement / question:
Both are worth RADICLY LESS than I paid for them and I am in a temp living situation for the next few years (the econ. bit me in the butt BAD). Would you attempt to sell the XG and hang the 9500LC as it should be a significantly better picture or do you hang the XG as its a temp situation anyway and sell the 9500LC while its still worth $ to a shrinking crowd?
Now is the time to decide as both are in the crates and the temp room (painfully temp) is coming along. What PJ would you put on the ceiling?
Source will be an BD player (prob the Oppo) and HD Comcast with a Lumagen HDP (thanks again Curt). I may let the kids talk me into putting the Wii in the room as well. A Moome card will be used either way. Has not been secured yet.
Screen is a 110” diag. Stewart MicroPerf with gain.

i must say it pains me to see someone has to sell either 1 of them because of money problems.
i had to sell 2 tube amplifiers and a tube preamp once and i still hated the day i had to let them go.

Yeah, that sucks.
Which you keep depends on your situation, I'd say.
The XG is worth so little, it's probably groceries for a month or two. So, selling that one isn't going to net you much in the way of financial gain.
The 9500 is actually still worth some, so you could probably actually pay some bills and a mortgage payment or whatever... But, it's probably not much compared to what you have in it... So, if you're not so tight you need the cash flow, you might as well hang the 9500 up and enjoy watching some movies.
OTOH, if money is tight and your place is small/temp, you could dump both, put your time and effort into improving your life and financial situation, then get back into HT when your situation is more stable.
OTOH, when you're going through rough times, sometimes an outlet - something that will make you happy and take your mind of things - is priceless...
Definitely sell at least one of them... They sure ain't gaining any value.
But, don't let the vultures convince you to sell, and don't let the CRT nuts convince you to keep. It's up to you to decide what's best for you.
Regardless, here's to hoping things look up for you and everybody else that are in a bind!

Unless it's an Ultra, I don't think you'll really get much for either set. I'm turning down everything but 9" sets now, and probably have enough 8" sets to last the world for 5 years.. but no one's buying. Sad but true.

The whole reason I've got a CRT is because it's the one way I know I can enjoy a ton of movies on a supersmall budget. Assuming the thing doesn't die on me, the tubes will last and last - if I ran a digital, I'd have to count every hour.
I'd keep the 9500. It's not like it's going to blow chunks vs. a new digital for quite a while, and the running costs are low - you won't have an HT without it or the XG, and you won't get enough to justify the loss to your quality of life unless you've got people at your door ready to break your legs.

Sad times indeed. But, my friends with their 50" plasmas are still in awe at my projector. The sinking CRT ship is like watching a classic car and friend drift into the past out of memory when you know it's time to let it go. You had good times together, struggled through repairs and upgrades yet developed a bond by knowing how every inch of it worked and could sense when it had problems.

It is not an Ultra and no one is concerned about knees....
I had to leave behind a house with a Dennis Erskine theater under construction for a basement in a rental for several years at least.
It seems the general concensus is to hang the 9 incher and smile. As Mike Parker is so close and I just dumped some money into the LVPS that does sound like the way to go to me as well.
Thanks all!!!!
Next sad question: Will I make more on the XG if parted out? Is it worth more in peices? SAD!!!!!

Crabb said everything I would say. I would add that the the Marquee should be easier to fix, if you encounter any problems in the future. You might also get more life out of the 9" tubes than the 8" tubes.

Unless your going to blend, don't worry that it's not an ultra.

Well, it's not by choice... just stuff likes to rust and fall apart here very fast. Most vehicles don't see past 15years.

The XG is worth more parted out.
The tubes(assuming they're actually clear of burn/wear) lenses and remote are pretty much the only things that *could* bring in some cash...the system board too, maybe...
