Consider that I just sold three NEC's(two XG's and an Xtra), all working and checked out, with two remotes, and two really high end line triplers, for $600. TOTAL, including delivery...
So before you go saying "I saw this really cheap $2000. Runco Crapola 500 on CL" consider what CHEAP, really means...

Yeah, I know. My 8500's LVPS died last month, and I had to seriously consider if it was worth dumping $200 into it to keep it running. I did, because it would cost 10x that much to replace it, but...

I would like to point out that selling all the machines together made them worth WAY less money than if they'd been sold individually. I'd guess they'd have been worth nearly double that money sold individually.
The "high-end line triplers" aren't worth anything to much of anybody.

I sold a M8000 last summer for $500. The guy was upgrading from a 7" machine and didn't want to pay for shipping so he only wanted to buy local. It's all in what the customer is willing to spend.

And the point of this tread is? There are PLENTY of cheap options on CL/Ebay how much time you spend looking, your location and your risk tolerance will all play into how low you go or can get. It got two 9" sets for way less than you sold those 3 8" sets. But I did have to put some work into them. Also what was the tube condition especially for 8" sets it all come down to that?
P.S. My Runcos were cheap but aren't cheap if you get my drift.

Good point. That M8000 had 9+ rated tubes in it. Very minty.

The point is to discourage threads "pointing" to supposedly "cheap" projectors that are thinly veiled advertisements, OR misguided attempts to "help" others find "cheap" projectors....
Pretty much ANYTHING over $1000. is NOT a good deal in these times, regardless of what/where/condition etc...

I don't know most folks who put any effort into it should be able to figure out where to find a cheap projector these days if that is their thing. If you want to help folks, and you have in the past, why not post where you find your cheap projector? If not here over on AVSforum. You seem to think like there is some conspiracy but I don't see it. There are plenty of cheap projectors on Ebay and Craiglist, these days and those are not "super secret" in any way shape or form. My projectors have all come from those two sources with one exception and they were all cheap for their time and place.
And some folks choose not to play the surplus game and choose other sources and higher prices. That is fine too. My two late model Runco 9" sets came off of CL no secret. I did get a killer deal but I did have to buy a new green (most folks could have probably lived with the ones I had), cut out the old tube, install the new tube and then between my two projectors I had about 7 bad boards including the same convergence driver board being bad on both trays. Some of the faults were non-obvious at first. I spent a LOT of time fixing things and my cheap projectors are only cheap because I value this as a hobby but if I put the same $$$ on my hours that I earn in my day job, I honestly paid quite a bit more for my projectors. It is all in how the value your time and your risk reward ratio.

I was scratching my head at first as well.
I would have easily paid more than $600 for what you sold. A single XG or Xtra depending on model and tube condition was worth that to me.
I paid $69 a piece for 3 ECP 4500's 5 years ago on eBay and $799 for a 9500LC a few months back. Deals are always out there but you have to be in the right place at the right time and constantly checking. Like secstate said it's all on how you value it as a hobby, your time and what you want as an end result. For someone who's sick of CRT and just want it out of the house you may find a great deal. My 1200x I found on CL from a member here and I would have paid what I did again. I think we were destine for each other as I always loved the Barco case design and black Onyx model not to mention the short throw distance on the Zenith that fits the living room perfectly to give exactly an 84" screen.
As for current market value I would say sellers have more control than what someone like myself is willing to spend. Of course emerging projector technologies with people jumping ship is inevitable on declining prices.

So, I will have to point out that I'm the buyer. Elaine lives about 7 hours from me, and suggested he would deliver. Also, since I'm a knob when it comes to setup, he will guide me through setting up the PG Xtra that will be installed in the garage. The other two XGs are going to my buddies, which he said he'll show me how to set them up (priceless in my books). I have a 1292 in my main theater, so I let them have better ones out of the three, that way everyone is happy.
I don't really care for the scalers, but he is including them and nothing is free. Where I live, there isn't many projectors to choose from so, whenever someone wants one, I hook them up through Elaine. Anyways, it is a deal of the year for me (and two of my friends)
There is one complain I would have to make about Elaine. I really wish Elaine was Elaine and not a man in his 40s delivering these puppies.
Anyways, I will be having two projectors set up now. One is setup in the basement (1292) and the Xtra is going in the garage. I already have surround in there. Should be a pretty nice setup for the summer.
Cheers
Chris.
