i put on the 2nd hv lead i got from curt on my green tube and let it cure for 2 days but still have the occasional hv spike (approx 1 per hour) so my pic disappears and comes back.
yesterday i watched 2 hours with just 1 spike so it looks like it`s getting less worse.
i have used plain transparent silicone however as some said this would be good enough but now i`m having 2nd thoughts about the silicone used.
i should have gone for the dow stuff i guess.

if you can't stop the arcing in or around connectors, my try would be silicone grease or vaseline whereever you can't use proper silicone. you could also try to get some decent silicone tube that will fit over the hv connector and cover the entire cable length...

thanks for the advice.
is the plastic sleeving necessary cause i didn`t put it around because it isn`t possible to do so without cutting it over the entire length.

BTW, within 2-3 weeks I will have 50 more HV leads in stock with Marquee ends on them. Same price, $25 each incl shipping worldwide.

curt, is the plastic sleeving necessary as per motobias`s advice of putting silicone over the entire length it surely seems so.

Not all silicons are the same, so you just can't use any silicon and expect it not arch.
The GE name brand will do the job for you.

My guess is that it protects arcing from occurring if there's a pinhole in the HV lead, and it also provides protection from sloppy technicians with sharp screwdrivers, but mandatory? I don't think so. After all, the weakest part (IMHO) of the HV leads in general are at each end. That's usually where I have arcing coming from when the leads get old, not in the middle (although I have had a couple fail there as well).

I ran into a pin hole on one of the HV leads on my Ampro 4000, it had rubbed through on the chassis and made a nice 1" purple arc. The replacement lead had the plastic sleeve on it.

I used to buy them from VDC, and some came with the sleeving, most without.
