Hi, I'm new to the forums but have been lurking for a while, I just bought the projector in the title on ebay, and was wondering what the likelihood of damage would be if i don't get them to remove the neck boards like curt says he does.
This is going to be my first CRT projector and look forward to setting it up, I hope that I will be able to resolve any issues with the help of this forum.

Yes it is the one in Arlington. I already paid for it but I have contacted the seller to see if i can get the shipping refunded and change it to local pickup. If the seller lets me change it to pickup, then we can work out packing and shipping, I'll post again when the seller gets back to me.

I've had 5 CRT projectors, 3 ECP 4500's, a Zenith 1200x and a 9500LC, shipped from the CO, IN and TX I think to Newfoundland, Canada. That's a long time and multiple transfers on trucks and a ferry. I have yet to experience an issue aside from surface damage or dumb delivery drivers trying to unload the unit off the back of the truck alone. Someone is bound to walk on it or something is going to fall on it so I'd recommend to have it crated.
I've used BaxGlobal/DBSchenker until shipping rates/fuel doubled but back in 2004 $350 for shipping still seemed reasonable. I've switched to YRC since. I only paid $320 to have the 9500LC 222lbs brought in from CO direct to me.
That's going to be a long drive. How much was shipping?

XG's and G70's are a bit delicate due to the thin necked tubes.
It is best to get the neckboards removed.
BUT!! Only if the shipper is a CRT Tech. On an XG they are not easy to remove, you have to pull all the covers off, and move the rear card cage to the service position, then know how to get the neckboards off without damaging pins or tubes.
