TV/Projector: All of them!

As most of you know, Runco modded the NEC PG sets by adding a small additional memory board directly under the green tube, mounted to the power supply. I believe this board was for extra memory locations for adding various aspect ratios.

As per another thread here, I recapped the set due to various issues, and replaced the convergence board due to an F8 error. It's a low hour set, 700 hours on it. Mint tubes, mint case.

I went and installed it to replace a Vidikron video only set that had died.

Put the set on the ceiling, was converging when I went into the setup menu, the one at the bottom of the 'adjust' menu.

I saw that the set was set to 'SW1' instead of 'standalone'. THe set had been running fine for an hour BTW.

For some reason I put the set into 'standalone' mode. Instantly the set turned off... and wouldn't come back on !

I farted around with it for an hour on site, pressed the reset button on the system board, no go. I finally found that if I unplugged the AC power to the set, I could then power the set up if I left the power unplugged for about 15 seconds. The set would come on for about 8 seconds, then shut down, no error codes. It would do this consistently, so I figured that even with no image, maybe I could get back into the menu and set the projector back to 'SW1' mode. No dice.

After an hour I gave up, and pulled the system board out.

Now this house is at the other end of town, and the only reason the customer bought this set is because their multimillion dollar home is sold, and they promised the new owners that the HT room was working, when they found out that their Vidikron was dead.

So with the second 2 hour round trip, I am fast cutting into any profit I was to make on this sale, as I sold the NEC cheap to get rid of it.

Anyone know why this NEC shut down when it was put into standalone mode? Is it due to this custom Runco PC board?

I have the system board here, and will put it into a stock NEC set to see what happens. Worst case tomorrow I will take a complete working NEC PG with me to do more board swaps on site, but I've never run across this before.

BTW, the on off switch on teh back of the set wasn't doing anything either, and the remote was in wired mode. I tried wireless mode, but when the set shut down, nothing but pulling the power cord would get it to come on again.
