I was trying to adjust the color for my ECP 4100 following the procedures as outlined in the manual. Under the section “Color Balance and Video Alignment”, set brightness = 10, contrast = 0, adjust the 3 offset null potentiometers of the Video Control Module to ½ way between black and bright. There is a range between totally black and bright. In other words, after totally black, I start to turn the small screw and it will make a few turns before it start to get bright again. It is not easy to figure out where is the mid point.
But on the Service Alignment section for the Video Control Module, it said set brightness = 10, contrast = 0, adjust the 3 offset null potentiometers so that there should be no video.
However, when I do that, I can not adjust the R5 on the Video Output Module to 140 Vdc. I think it just max. out at 80 Vdc and drop again!
Can some ECP experts shed some light on this.
Thanks.

Hello

I remember that the manual was in error, maybe Curt has the right procedure for that.

Null potentiometers on the Video Control module are not related to color adjustment procedure. Null pots are necessary to offset contrast level for each color. When null pots set correctly you should not be able to see any picture with contrast = 0 (hence the name – null pot).
The best way to adjust null pots: display crosshatch pattern, set contrast = 0, increase brightness until you can easily see the raster, adjust null pot for each color so the crosshatch disappears. When doing it look directly into the lens, you should be easily see the crosshatch moving from positive to negative video and the opposite.

For color alignment follow Mike Newman procedure here: ECP Complete Video Alignment Procedure (read post #19 near the end of first page). The manual is correct however it is not very clear and difficult to follow. I have seen several other methods for ECP video alignment, but I find Mike Newman’s method is fastest and easy to understand.

Set null pots before you do color alignment and after you finished verify null pots again.
