Hello,

Turned my NEC 9PG on again since long time it starts up and shows normal picture, everthing seems alright but the two fans on the bottom don't start. After 30 seconds the machine shows "fan has stopped" and shuts off.

anyone knows what can cause this problem ?

best regards

Very unusual, never had that one before. Mac, I'm not sure that the system board controls the fans. Check all wiring on the motherboard under the system board (hard to do!), maybe something wiggled out? I have the s/manual, can check the fan voltage flow if you get stuck.

I am a little baffled myself with 2 fans not working. My suggestion came after looking at the S/M. The 3 wires on the fans are +15v, +5v stby and to the system board for fan stop. I agree the system board doesn't appear to control the fans but figured try the reseat since its simple and to rule it out. The 3rd fan is also tied to the other 2 fans circuits so this is why I'm curious if that one is or not running also. +15v down should trigger an instant shutdown with a code. +5v stby should also be up since it starts. Need more checking......

Check for a bad ground also.

Of course there's always a slim chance that both fans failed at the same time or one was replaced at some time with the safety bypassed and now the other one has failed. Wink

thanks for your answers but i've found the error. the pre owner installed some fan control circuits and anywho the two fan supply wires become loose and made a short circuit on blank metal. so a resistor on the mother pcb burnt away. it's not really easy to remove the mother pcb because i had to remove the green tube and many wires. i didn't get out the hv lead from the hv splitter so i didn't fully remove the green tube and as i work on the mother pcb i heard some crackle, here's a picture Sad

looks like i have to search for a burnt tube and change the glass

That resistor will be the same as the ones beside it, 2.2 ohm, 1 watt.

Now you know why I hate aftermarket mods that aren't done right. It causes problems like this..Sad

Also, I should have a burnt tube, no charge, but it will be $65 or so to ship. Otherwise I could smash the neck of the tube and just send the front part, I'm guessing that will be $35 or so.

Bleed your other tubes.

Changing the glass isn't hard, just time consuming.

Use turps, drain the glycol on the donor tube, and fill the chamber with turpentine.

Wait a day or two.

Cut the glass off CAREFULLY with the thin razor blades with a folded backing edge. (For paintscrapers.)

Just use regular black acetic cure silicone (the vinegary one) to reattach the glass.

And you pry the HV boot up carefully by lifting and pushing the edge of the boot - it pops over a ridge and is hard to remove. Use the round shaft of a screwdriver (not the tip) and don't scratch the splitter, or the HV will come out and it's REALLY LOUD!

Actually I was looking at the pix, and seeing that the 2 and 2 were so far apart, it looked like there would be a . between the two.

22 ohms it is!
