Mark. No, I didn't soak it. The removal was going OK until I dropped a dental pick, bounced, hit the edge of the glass causing about 1/2" crack. None of the cutting caused a problem. Using the old style razor blades. The paper thin ones (super flexible .0025" thick same as paper) with a cutting edge on both sides (Wilkinson Sword). Took a couple pennies and sandwiched the blade about half way and locked tight with small vice-grips. Starting at the top corner, with the tube sitting on one of the edges, I cut straight down with the penny riding against the casting using a gentle rocking motion. Once I cut all the way down the top side, I set the tube bottom side down and followed the same procedure down each side. When I got to the place where the casting sticks out I just bent the blade towards myself and continued with the same rocking action until I was past the protrusion, then went back to the original way of cutting through to the bottom. There was no clearance at the bottom block so I just cut to it and pealed the rest away pulling on the glass. One Blade broke during the procedure, so left it in and cut down to it from opposite corner. Worked without a hitch. Well other than the dental pick incident. My only suggestion using this procedure is make sure there is nothing laying around (especially at any elevated height, that can crack glass.

Is this a special glass, or can it be replaced with glass cut at any glass shop?
