Huh. I guess that way you have zero rainbow issues. But you have registration issues. I'm surprised they didn't pulse the LEDs to run everything off one panel. I guess you'd probably lose about 2/3 of the brightness that way though.

I'm still astonished that DLPs work at all, let alone have any reasonable lifespan. I mean, those are little flippers in there. Mechanical parts. Flopping their little brains out thousands of times per second. How can that work!?

It's impressive. The black level is even good. (Not outstanding, but actually very good and quite watchable.) The color gamut is incredible. Its motion blur reduction mode WORKS LIKE MAGIC.

Would I REPLACE my Marquee with one? No. But if I was looking for another projector and had the budget, I think this product would
be a top contender for my money. Having no lamps to replace and no CRTs to burn out makes it a pretty attractive product, particularly when you add in the fact that the picture quality is genuinely excellent.

Is this something new? There was no 3 chip led when I was there 3 months ago and no mention of it.

Actually the DMD's do fail and fail quite often.
And as far as 50,000 hour life............ now thats funny. They may rate the LED at that but surely not the projector. Now.... is it possible...... sure........is it likely.......... not likely....
Even the LED's burn out prematurely...... although not common.

While that seems like a great price, I have been told that Runco's markup is pretty good. My guess is that you could get one for not to far off of that price or maybe less.

While I don't doubt that 50k hours is probably not going to happen, wouldn't VDC's pj last longer than the regular offerings out there? Doesn't the government have some minimum specs for something like this?

Although I could comment on this, I wont. You can talk to Scott about this. I dont want to reveal anything that was told to me that may not want to be known as product knowledge.

I'm fairly certain that this Runco machine is made by VDC. It's just a "private label" version of the Marquee SSL6000.
Look at the back panel. Other than the trigger jacks, even the back panel layout is identical.
The Runco version has a much more attractive case. The VDC version is a simple black box, as industrial as it can be.
VDC also makes a mil-spec ruggedized version of this projector which is literally built in a NEMA enclosure.
Incidentalliy, I may have been way off base here. I wrote that the VDC LED projector was a 3 chip engine, but
I don't think that's true. It's a one chip engine with no color wheel. The LEDs are strobed at a high rate, synched
up with the DMD color channels.

Let me just clarify this with hopes I'm not saying to much. VDC does NOT make LED projectors......

Hmmm, Mac it seems like I have some good questions when I stop by VDC.
CJ,
It is a Delta OEM.

I'm not surprised at that. They don't make the DLP engine. They DO integrate the DLP engine into their own product.
Look inside any DLP projector and the engine is made by one of a small number of companies such as TI or Delta. But what they do with
that engine can vary dramatically from one brand to another.

I think you should have a conversation with Scott. I'm not discussing this any further.

Then why did you say that VDC integrates the light engine into their product?
Its my understanding VDC does NOT have "their product".
Unless I was misinformed. Which I was very specific in my conversation.

You didn't finish the sentence:
The Runco version has a much more attractive case... which is worth $10,000.

that's the most important piece and exactly why I'm upgrading my 8500 to a 9" machine to last me years to come. Me no afford an LED PJ.

I was reading about one on the Home Theatre magazine. "second to none" picture, although they seemed to be comparing to lamp PJs, as they never mentioned CRT. $16K list price for a zoom lens and $17K for a fixed lens. I think it was the M-Vision Cine LED DLP.
