I removed it. I Just wanted to see if this was Mikes own fix or the one who has an intellectual intreats in it(The one who came up with it).

Yes the chip in my Pic is a specially programed chip that alters the wave forms. I am not 100% sure on what it involves but I have the schematics and the pics on how to do it. I will try to find time and do one of my longbows with this as I do have banding on the one.

Yes i do have two of the same PJ's. The one on the right has the banding. I think I might be able to get it worked out . I spent more time on the Left PJ as that one had a cold solder joint on one of the CLM buffering caps and would initialize on its own. So i really worked on set up with that one and then used the Video processors controls more to move the image around compared to using the PJ controls. That helps out some as well. And I think I did a better job centering the green, red, and blue Focus coil and CPC magnets where i am using very little convergence to line them up. I can do a convergence reset and need only a few clicks to move the center for red and blue to line up with green.

There are many methods to remove the chips, one good one is to load on the solder to cover all pins and then just lift the chip off. the use soldering braid to wick the excess solder off. do a search on the web and you should find some other tips.

For DIP packaged IC removal I like to use a small cutting wheel and cut the chip body away from the legs, then each leg can be heated and extracted by needlenose pliers, one at a time.

cool, Craig's 3rd link shows a guy that uses the same machine I do. The Pace MBT-250. It really does save hours. Not a cheap setup though.

If you buy an Aoyue, look on eBay first. I have purchased a few of them from authorized sellers and the price on eBay is less than that of other sources. There is even a portable hot air rework gun that is only $44.

I've installed this mod on two different CLMs so far. It works extremely well!

I first needed a few days to play with it and become familiar with it.

Sometime next week I'll ship the second CLM to Tim Martin or one of the other Electrohome experts for further evaluation.
