HELP!!!!!!! So I have officially taken the CRT plunge and in the course of 4 weeks I purchased Sony 1272, ordered an HD Fury 2, a Blu Ray player and then purchased a very clean Runco 980 that is giving me fits (I know it was working in previous intall). I've read and read to try to understand these CRT beasts, but I'm stumped now. Here's my problem. The Runco has a terrible on off oscillation/flicker to it. It will only hold a menu or test pattern up for maybe 10 seconds and then it stops (doesn't power down). I can then call a menu/test up again and it goes through the same cycle. A little extra info. In the previous installation there was a Faroudja 400a line quadrupler installed (btw, value or boat anchor?) which I'm assuming will be of no benefit to me and is not installed currently. Also, it has some interlacing board on the top front of the projector that looks to be from Runco and not NEC. I tried moving the banks of dip switches per the manual-nothing. lu Ray has not been hooked up. Anybody shed some light here? I'm hoping this is a simple problem. Thanks so much!
Regards,
Matt

Sounds possibly like a bad system or wave board (common failures now) If you have no input signal connected, that can also happen, and is normal. With the Fury, you don't need the Faroudja. I think I sold my last 400a for $150 on eBay...

Hey, that interlace board is for the first few input memory spots. If you have it set too high it will cause the picture to be unstable. Try turning all the adjustments on it to zero.
The dip switches correspond to only the first 10 convergence memories and it only works with the PJ in "SW-1" level.
Basically if you turn the pot next to the lit LED (with the dip switch on) it will fill in the scan lines.
Dip switch bank #1 is a 4-1 interlace adjustment.
Bank #2 is a 2-1 adjustment.
ADJUSTMENT INSTRUCTIONS
(1)Choose #1 or #2 but not both for a single convergence memory and don't use bank #1 if using an external line doubler or direct composite/s-video input.
(2)An LED will light next to the active pot on the interlace board. Set the active pot fully counterclockwise.
(3) Show an externally generated source or pattern and slowly turn pot clockwise until scanlines blend together but not to the point that the image appears to vibrate.
Only works in SW1 level and only on the first 10 convergence memories.

Thanks Curt and Loudmouse2 for the replies. I'll give it go here in bit. Loudmouse2 what is "SW1 level"? Curt, I tried hooking up the Blu Ray via the HD Fury 2, and got nothing. I just can't help but believe something is set right. Input #, a setting on the Blu Ray machine, something on the HD Fury 2? BTW, are there any instructions for that thing?

A little embarrassing, but one of the USB ports on my lap top is fried ( which I had forgotten), so the Fury was getting no power. I had it plugged into the USB as I didn't have an extension cord handy at the time. Unlike the Sony that I played with, this Runco/NEC definitely wants a input hooked up. Thanks Curt!
