Lid of herion?
New term for me. I assume it's a measurement, or specific size container?

Not so much a container or measurement, but a vessel... You put the heroin (in dry/powder form) into the metal lid, squirt some water from a syringe into the lid, then use a lighter to dissolve (or cook) it, pick it up with the syringe, and mainline to "get off". Lids, spoons, aluminum foil... Addicts will use whatever they have at their disposal to get their fix.

Heh heh... I figured that would come up, John. Books, movies, and TV...
Actually, a member of my extended family was an addict... I was young, but I saw a few things first-hand (not hard core drug use, mind you), but more importantly, I saw the behavior and then the end result as a teenager...
I'm not sure if it was all the relative, but for whatever reason, I've always been fascinated with drug addiction... So, drug movies have always been really interesting. I suppose it's a bit of a morbid fascination, but it also makes me feel really fortunate myself - fortunate in that I've never had any inclination to try any hard drugs myself. Well, OK... On some really deep/weird/core level, I'd like to try them... I'd actually like to know what it feels like and what the appeal is... But, I'm smart/strong/aware/educated enough NOT to try because the end-game is pretty painfully obvious.
Have you ever seen the TV show, Intervention? My wife and I watch it from time to time. On one hand, it's incredibly sad to see entire family structures torn apart or even permanently, irreparably destroyed by drug and alcohol addiction. On the other hand, it can be inspiring and heart-warming to see somebody so utterly in despair and close to death, accept help and get their sh*t together.
Wow, now THERE'S a topic detour.

That is SO right-on, John. I agree... I'm thoroughly disgusted by the, "They're going to do it, anyway so why try to stop it" mentality. I don't know, because if you don't, you're essentially CONDONING IT, you moron!!!
Obviously kids are going to stray, going to experiment, and going to try to escape the confines of your parental construct... But, you need guidelines!!! My parents did, and I damn well know exactly when I was leaving the "acceptable confines"... The further I went outside those confines, the more uncomfortable I was... My conscience told me so... Loudly and clearly. If you don't give kids the confines, how can their conscience tell them when they're "out of bounds"... A little or a lot.

Ohhh, So the often used spoon or aluminum foil shaped to form a bowl,or any other holder, that is used to cook, heat and liquify is "the Lid".

My opinion is that its laziness. It's work monitoring your children. Many folks today have adopted the " I work hard, i desreve a break" mentality. Well raising kids, the right way is a Full contact sport. No rest for the weary. Believe me, the bad guys aren't resting. If i had a child today, VIGILANCE would be my calling card.

Have you ever had pain medication prescribed to you? Something like Vicadin. I'm told this is the narcotic opioid that is most closely associated to heroin.
I had nasal surgery 2 years ago and was prescribed VICADIN. If this is the feeling addicts are shooting for I can see the want or whatever it is, they are chasing.
I never felt better in my life then when taking that Vicadin. Nothing on my body hurt, my mind was clear, and i was completely relaxed and mellowed , without a care in the world.
Same thing goes for Demoral. I was in the hospital with a broken leg they shot my up with Demoral , and all was good.
Now I'm the same as you. I would not go and get these or any other drugs for recreational use ,because I know they could, and most likely would, ruin my life.
But there are days when I think, man just put me in a bed a shoot me up with demoral.
And that scares the sh*t out of me.

I have read that Oxycontin is like that as well.... just tune out....
It's like the speech in "cat on a hot tin roof" Brick was explaining his drinking , and he said he was waiting for that "click" the tuneout.

I was at a doctors appointment and witnessed a woman walk out screaming and shouting because the doc wouldn't give her another prescription for Oxycontin. "but he knows it helps me why won't he give me more!" I haven't been around that before so it was interesting to see it first hand. Definitely a problem with the prescription drugs getting handed out all over. That same appointment the "solution" was to put me on three prescriptions. I turned them all down. One was a Valium to lower stress levels. wtf.

I think you're off on that one, SC. I've only ever heard the term "lid" refer to pot. Google "lid drugs" and all the references I see are for marijuana -- usually 1 lid == 1 ounce, but I saw one that said 1 lid == 1/8 ounce. I Googled "lid heroin" and didn't see any references in a quick scan.

Yep, she kicked ass. Funny little movie. I can see all the socker moms getting their panties in a bunch over the language in it. I thought it was damned funny. Then again I have a sense of humour and most people don't.
